As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Develop conceptual designs and contract documents sufficient to allow a qualified contractor to implement state-of-the-art communications networks and data centers for various clients, primarily public transit agencies

  • Ensure systems are built to specification and operate as intended, while minimizing our clients’ risk and optimizing cost based on their needs

  • Establish design criteria, writing specifications, developing conceptual designs, preparing cost estimates, reviewing contractors’ design and other data, and overseeing testing and commissioning/cut-over of the various communications networks, data centers, and systems

  • Participate in design, testing, and commissioning activities on various transportation projects with focus on communications and IT infrastructure

  • Collaborate with team members locally and remotely to accomplish project objectives

You bring to the role:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the application of current communication infrastructure and technologies

  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and BICSI standards and regulations

  • Experience in design of detailed fiber-based communications infrastructure plans including outside plant, switches, and control and data centers

  • Knowledge of design, implementation, administration and optimization of enterprise network management systems and monitoring utilities such as HP Open View, WhatsUp Gold, Nagios, SolarWinds or equivalent

  • Knowledge of network throughput, latency, and reliability design and calculations

  • Experience in design and implementation of disaster recovery plans for network infrastructure to ensure operations continuity

  • Experience in design of CCTV systems using simulation software

  • Experience in design of Public Address systems for stations and buildings

  • Experience in developing requirements for appropriate security controls to safeguard network access and other vital electronic infrastructure

  • Knowledge of Ethernet core protocols and common extensions

The following skills/experience are a plus:

Candidates with certifications, knowledge and experience with Cisco products/technologies are preferred.  BICSI RCDD certification, PE or EIT licensure are desirable, but not required. Experience in the North American transit/transportation industry is an advantage.
