The Control, Automation & Electrical Group is a Hatch global practice providing engineering design expertise to Hatch's commodity-based business practices. Our capability spans through the whole project lifecycle comprising; scoping, conceptual design, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction, commissioning and project management.

Our Brisbane team is currently seeking an Instrumentation and Control Engineer to assist with an increasing workload. The Instrumentation and Control Engineer will be involved in a variety of engineering work including developing control solutions, design, drawing mark-ups and checking, software configuration, technical construction and commissioning queries, as-built detail documentation and estimating. This will include instrumentation and control systems, ranging from small package plants through to major industrial complexes and associated PLC/SCADA and DCS installations.

Responsibilities of these roles may also include:

  • Instrument selection and specification
  • Control system hardware and software specification
  • Preparation of Software Functional Specifications
  • Testing and acceptance of control system hardware and software
  • Site installation supervision and commissioning
  • Project scope definition and preparation of proposals for submission to clients
  • Preparation of EPCM and capital estimates and project schedules
  • Participation in formal engineering review processes such as HAZOPs and CHAZOPs

Qualifications, skills and experience we are ideally seeking:

  • A degree in engineering with sound post-graduate experience (ideally with CPEng or RPEQ registration).
  • Demonstrated design and engineering experience (with site field experience) for oil and gas, mining and minerals processing, or major infrastructure.
  • Experience in the application and configuration of a variety of PLC/SCADA and/or DCS systems
  • A working knowledge of functional safety and hazardous area design and installation requirements
  • Have current knowledge of applicable industry standards and local regulatory requirements
  • Excellent attitude towards safety and a demonstrated ability to comply with the safety requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with our internal and external clients on a technical level with engineering, maintenance and operations staff
