The incumbent is a Control, Automation and Instrumentation engineer, with experience obtained in an industrial process control and instrumentation (C&I) and multi-disciplinary engineering project environment in the mining, minerals processing, oil & gas, power or heavy industrial projects environment. The incumbent performs his tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary project engineering team, develops C&I functional and architecture designs, develops detailed C&I designs, performs control system integration, ensures effective integration of C&I solutions into clients’ operating systems and environments, and functions as an integral part of plant commissioning teams.



  • B or B Tech Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
  • Professional Registration, or eligible for registration (Essential/Minimum)     
    Experience and Competence
  • 5 years relevant experience. (Essential/Minimum)
  • Experience in mining, mineral processing, oil & gas, power or heavy industrial projects environment.
  • Plant and process functional designs, HAZOP participation, functional control specification development.
  • Control system design and development, preferably in diverse roles (e.g. engineer, designer, software programmer, commissioning engineer).
  • Instrumentation selection, specification and designs.
  • Field cabling designs.
  • Modern industrial control systems (PLC/DCS/SCADA), and data historians.
  • Modern industrial control communications networks and technologies, including wireless networking.
  • Cyber security, and secure network designs.
  • Automated C&I design tool/database experience (e.g. 1DES, SPIN, COMOS).
  • Plant and facility commissioning.
  • Familiar with Electrical engineering and designs.
  • Establish user requirements for systems solutions.
  • Development of C&I requirements including user requirements, functional requirements, detail design requirements and interface requirements specifications.
  • Control architecture and system designs.
  • Instrumentation specifications and designs.
  • Functional (software) control specifications.
  • Control software development.
  • System, integration and software test planning and testing.
  • Tender and procurement documentation, and vendor submission evaluation.
  • Interfacing and working with others in a multi-disciplinary EPCM projects.
  • Installation supervision and commissioning.
  • Project deliverables imposed by the Project/Engineering/Discipline Manager, incl. planning and progress monitoring deliverables.
  • Participate in project progress and client meetings to review the progress and issues pertaining to a project.
  • The role could require time spent at client’s sites and operations, imposing the requirement for travel and time spent away from home.
  • Displays and actively promotes behavior aligned to Hatch’s goal of achieving a total safety culture by:
  • Participating in investigation of all serious incidents reported and ensuring that all follow-up actions are carried out.
  • Participating in audits of work areas.
  • Attending all identified safety training.
  • Acting as a mentor for the implementation of Hatch safety standards to contractors.
  • Ensures governance on projects in compliance to Hatch and client policies and procedures.
  • Carries clear responsibility and accountability for delivery of the project goals as set down by the client/project manager.
