Role title:         Principal Engineer: Water & Waste Water Treatment

Reports to:      Discipline Lead: Water & Waste Water Treatment

 Summary

The Water and Waste Water Treatment Practice was established in 2010 and operates within the Water Business Unit.  Since its establishment the practice has experienced growth to a practice that contributes significantly to the Water business overall.

As a result of the success of the practice and the anticipated future growth, a number of positions have become available including that of a Senior Engineer.

The successful candidate will be required to lead a team or multidisciplinary engineers servicing a variety of large and small projects.  It is envisaged that this team will consist of process, mechanical, piping, control, electrical, civil and structural engineers.

The successful candidate should have an appreciation of Municipal and/or Industrial Water and Waste Water Treatment Process Design, have experience within the sector and should have an interest in developing Client relationships and new business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
  • Prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWPs)
  • Assign work tasks (via signed off EWPs) to individuals and continuously monitor progress and quality
  • Develop the manpower schedules
  • Develop the work plans
  • Develop and maintain the project scope of work documentation (Facilities Description Report) and revise as required during the design evolution
  • Prepare of monthly engineering status reports
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
  • Provide and/or coordinate training for resources assigned to the project
  • Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications and design criteria
  • Engage with clients at all levels
  • Assess contractual documentation and assess project and commercial risks as a part of the companies risk review procedures
  • Develop business

 

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • A recognized degree in engineering from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineer / Technologist registered with Engineering Council of South Africa
  • 15+ years’ experience in relevant engineering design
  • Ability to manage and delegate to individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives
  • Experience with working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards
  • Good commercial and contractual unde rstanding of both construction contracts and professional services contracts
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Good safety awareness.
  • Must have Water & Waste Water Treatment experience

 

Preferred

  • Must be capable of solving Water & Waste Water Treatment problem by understanding all applicable disciplines and must be able to integrate design inputs
  • Civil Engineering degree qualification is preferred, with a sound understanding of the processes around water and/or waste water treatment and infrastructure
  • The person should preferable be Client facing
  • Ideally should have an interest in Business Development
