Position Summary 
Hatch is currently seeking an IT/IS Project Manager to set up a PMO for our IT/IS groups and to project manage some of the development initiatives. The PMO Project Manager will be in our Hatch Digital business unit, reporting to the Global CIO and located in our Mississauga office 

The primary responsibility of this role is to drive effective project delivery across the global IT/IS portfolio of initiatives. This is a highly visible role, interfacing with senior executives across the business and with Hatch clients. The role is responsible for driving PMO processes and policies and maintaining a high level of Project Management professionalism. 

Hatch is a global company. Some of the IT/IS initiatives are implemented by teams in South Africa or Australia, and some by teams with team members in different countries and time zones. Users and clients are located all around the world with key regions being North America, Latin America, Australia and Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. 

As the incumbent, you will be key to the successful delivery of our IT/IS initiatives on time, on budget and to requirements. You will review our current project management processes and adjust as appropriate for the PMO, to provide guidance to and reporting on all initiatives. You will project manage some of the key initiatives, particularly those in the Development group, where we adhere to the agile methodology. You will provide input into program and capital budget development and administration, ensuring appropriate controls and accountability measures are established and maintained for initiative-related expenditures. 

The IT/IS groups in Hatch Digital configure, develop, install and maintain systems for Hatch and for Hatch clients including Business, Corporate, ICT, Digital Project Delivery and Client Operational Systems. Technologies in use within these teams include many SAP tools and modules as well as other tools and development environments including Aconex; Sharepoint; C#.NET; ASP.NET; Ajax; Javascript; jQuery; Material Design; AngularJS; Node; Knockout; SQL Server; Azure (Azure Dev Ops, Docker Containers, Kubernetes, Data Factory, Data Bricks);  Xamarin Forms and Azure Mobile; Data Lakes; Blob Storage – JSON; AI; imodelJS; Elastic Search; Virtual reality; EvtGrid; Power BI / Kibana Dashboards; Reality Capture (Photogrammetry & Laser Scanning); Visual Studio Professional and VSTS for Scrum and Source Control.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Create the PMO standards, processes, procedures, tools and reports 
  • Set up processes to ensure appropriate controls and accountability for initiative expenditure 
  • Establish and monitor KPIs and initiative success factors 
  • Provide regular visibility to initiative statuses on a standard cadence through status reporting and initiative reviews 
  • Respond to business priorities and support the development of business cases, charters and budgets for initiatives 
  • Manage charter and change request approvals 
  • Manage external expenditure on initiatives, including review and approval of consultant and vendor SOW documents and agreements 
  • Deliver assigned initiatives on time and on budget, adhering to PMO standards 
  • Coach other project managers and create a framework for ensuring their adherence to PMO standards and successful initiative delivery  
  • Coach the teams in negotiating initiative scope, budget and timing, providing appropriate project communications, gathering adequate documentation, conducting adequate quality assurance testing and resolving problem situations in order to adhere to agreed scope, budget and timing 
  • Support organizational change. 

 

Skills / Qualifications  

  • B.Sc. or Business degree or equivalent 
  • At least 4 years experience as an IS project manager and 2 years’ experience as a project manager in an IT/IS PMO 
  • Some experience as a project manager in an agile development environment 
  • Senior level experience in issues management, conflict resolution, problem-solving and customer service 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and excellent inter-personal skills 
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships, communicating both verbally and in writing with all stakeholders, team members and clients 
  • Experience in developing and implementing team processes and procedures  
  • Experience in the procurement of professional services: contract preparation, execution and administration and project cost control 
  • Results-oriented, self-starter, capable of working independently and within a team environment to meet deadlines 
  • Superior attention to detail, problem solving and organizational skills 
  • Ability to apply superior critical thinking and writing skills during high pressure, time sensitive situations with unrelenting commitment to achieving high quality results  
  • Adept at using project management related software tools such as MS Project 
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours as part of a global team and to travel if required.
