1.        Summary


The Senior Electrical Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports. The Senior Electrical Engineer is also responsible for assistance/participation in on-site commissioning.  This position is based out of Niagara Falls Ontario.

The Senior Electrical Engineer reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on small projects, i.e. functions as the Lead Electrical Engineer on small projects.

The Senior Engineer is responsible for supervising electrical designers, intermediate engineers and engineers in training (EIT) when they are part of the project.


2.      Key Responsibilities


  • Assist the Engineering Manager/Lead Electrical Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.
  • Prepare, subject to the approval of the Manager/Lead Electrical Engineer, technical documentation required for the execution of the project, including but not limited to general layout drawings, design criteria, design calculations, preliminary studies, value engineering studies, process flow sheets, standard specifications, standard detail drawings, construction and/or fabrication drawings, equipment lists, technical specifications, test procedures, commissioning procedures as-built documentation and data sheets
  • Manage and coordinate with the Manager/Lead Electrical Engineer the progress of the engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule and procedures.
  • Supervise, review, check and be responsible for quality of electrical designs performed by others in the design team.
  • Review, check shop drawings, calculus, designs, reports generated out of Hatch and related with the project to ensure conformity with engineering designs and standards
  • Following the award of contracts and purchase orders as instructed, monitor the fabrication and construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering designs.
  • Assist the Manager/Lead Electrical Engineer to measure, monthly, the progress of the engineering work packages to ensure that project budgets and schedules are being met. Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer in implementing corrective action as required.
  • Assist the Manager/Lead Electrical Engineers in reviewing the outcome of quality audits of engineering work and perform remedial work in accordance with the project procedures and the quality assurance plan.
  • Assist the Manager/Lead Electrical Engineers in ensuring that the checking of documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is implemented in accordance with project procedures
  • Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer in the preparation of draft monthly engineering progress reports for incorporation into the engineering monthly report.
  • Contribute to the development of different multidisciplinary design solutions and mentor other engineers. Provide guidance on Hatch quality standards.
  • Apply industry best practices and applicable codes and standards (IEEE, NEC, CEC, IEC, etc).
  • Assist in factory acceptance tests (FAT) activities and commissioning on site as required.
  • Adhere to and promote the Hatch corporate safety culture. Participate in the selection of electrical engineer candidates as required.


3.          Qualifications and Experience



  • BSc/B.Eng degree in electrical engineering.
  • Registration as a professional engineer. Alternatively, registration as a candidate for professional engineer actively working towards professional registration.
  • Minimum twenty years project engineering experience. Experience in electrical design/consultancy/utilities ideally within a similar large engineering or multi-disciplinary project environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical equipment and materials.
  • Sound knowledge of industry or regulatory codes and standards for electrical systems.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound knowledge of designing electrical systems and workflows for electrical systems.
  • Site experience in walk-downs, field testing and commissioning.




  • Experience within a large project, multidisciplinary EPCM environment.
  • Experience with renewable energy projects
  • Experience with electrical studies and protection systems
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Strong client focus.
  • Experience in mentoring and supervising others.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and promote the effective performance of team members.
