Title: Senior Project Manager/Lead - Independent Engineering & Due Diligence

Report to: Senior Director, Renewables
Summary:

This position entails both business development and project delivery for IE/DD projects within the eGrid – Power business of Hatch. Possible home office locations for the position include Hatch HQ (Mississauga ON), Montreal, QC, Oakland CA, Portland OR, or Boston MA. The selected candidate is expected to have strong lender/investor relationships, having led/performed independent reviews of utility scale Wind/Solar projects/portfolio for finance, re-finance or for M&A due diligence purpose.

With the continued strong expansion of Renewables in the global power generation mix, which cause for project finance for Wind/Solar assets to double in the next 10 years, Hatch is looking to grow its delivery capacity of its Renewables team in order to meet the growing need of customers relying upon our advices & technical review reports as part of their investment decision making process.

Team – Across the whole project life-cycle, the Renewables team supports the development of Renewable energy projects (wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, hydro, energy storage) in the utility scale and C&I sectors.

Position – The Senior Project Manager & Lead - Independent Engineering & Due Diligence will participate in delivering projects as well as be responsible for business development to capture new client accounts and work. This position will be responsible for delivering independent engineering consulting services, coordinating a multi-disciplinary and preparing IE/DD reports.  

Business Development Responsibilities may include:

  • Securing of new customer accounts
  • Establishing and stewarding relationships with targeted/assigned clients
  • Participating to trade conferences, events and/or industry association meetings, as applicable, for promoting Hatch Thought Leadership in the field and for generating new business leads
  • Leading or participation in Bib/No/Bid discussions for potential IE/DD opportunities
  • Preparing proposals
  • With support from management, legal and the commercial team, negotiate & secure contracts
  • Regularly updating management on the status of potential opportunities and market trends
  • Staying informed on market developments within renewables sector
  • Staying informed on Hatch’s broader capabilities to support the Renewables unit including, but not limited to, digital, advisory, water, environmental, and other power engineering offerings/resources.

Project Delivery Responsibilities may include:

  • Performing project management in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, of Hatch’s policies and procedures, including Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and progress and financial reporting
    • Coordinate activities, and those of the broader project teams, to maintain project schedules & budgets to ensure successful project completion
  • Initiating and coordinating the technical review process among internal specialists.
  • Performing portions of the due diligence reviews, including contract and financial model reviews
  • Coordinating input from technical specialists and writing of the due diligence reports.
  • Following up on open issues with the Client, including coordinating input on such issues from internal technical specialists, as necessary
  • Leading meetings with clients to discuss IE/DD report questions and concerns.
  • Coordinating IE related construction monitoring, including performing audits
  • Supporting financial closing of projects relying upon the IE report and conclusion of project construction monitoring.
  • Develop, train, and coordinate others to expand the team’s skills and service offerings                                          

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, electrical or mechanical
  • 8+ years of experience in wind power or solar power industry
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as Project Manager
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Fluent in MS Office products
  • Familiar with construction and supply contracts
  • Understanding of budgets and financial models
  • Proven track-record for establishing and maintaining trust-base/good relations w/ clients
  • Fluent in MS Office products
  • Capable of traveling to sites and performing visits/inspection (expected to vary between 15% and 30% annual time, mostly in NA).

Reporting to the head of Renewables team, the position requires a high level of interpersonal communication skills, as well as demonstrated project delivery experience.  A valid driver’s license and passport is required.
