Summary:

Hatch is currently looking for a Junior Health & Safety Advisor to assist with health and safety activities, including office and associated project work.  The Safety Advisor will receive direction from Senior Safety Personnel and Technical Managers to assist them with their mandates and projects.  The successful candidate will support as directed, the North American network of Hatch health and safety professionals and assist with the implementation of the Hatch Health and Safety Management System.   

Upon successful integration of the candidate, this role will present an opportunity for short or long term assignments on a Hatch project sites.  The candidate must be able and willing to travel and potentially temporarily relocate for assignments. 

The candidate must be adaptable, self-motivated, have the ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment, and be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in promoting an active health and safety culture;
  • Assist in implementing our health and safety management systems and contribute to its continuous enhancement;
  • Provide administrative support as required;
  • Prepare and facilitate health and safety training;
  • Prepare reports on health and safety;
  • Assist with the administration and design of safety awareness programs;
  • Promote effective communication and dissemination of relevant health and safety information;
  • Support the planning, organizing, directing and monitoring of health and safety programs, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislative and Hatch global requirements;
  • Interface with field staff and support project site work;
  • Assist with developing and participating in the inspection and audits of construction sites and offices;
  • Assist with the development of project safety plans and programs;
  • Liaise with Project Safety Leads on procedures and policies;
  • Assist with and be able to perform job safety analysis, analyze operations, identify risks and implement preventative measures;
  • Support senior staff with the coordination of incident investigations; document and supervise preventative and corrective action.
  • Keep abreast of developments in health and safety legislation and practice.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in occupational safety and health or a similar discipline
  • Understanding of worker safety standards and their applications, and a willingness to learn
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint…etc)
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Creative problem solving ability;
  • Outward facing with good interpersonal skills;
  • Self-motivated with good organizational capability;
  • Willing and able to travel.
