We have an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Environmental Assessment and Permitting Manager with between five to ten years of experience, who has strong regulatory knowledge, and proven capability of managing small to medium-sized major resource projects in the infrastructure, mining and energy sectors. Technical expertise in an environmental discipline (hydrology, geomorphology, fish and aquatics, vegetation or other) is highly desirable. The successful candidate will use their knowledge, skills and experience to successfully collaborate and integrate environmental considerations into the engineering design, construction, operations and closure phases of major capital projects as part of an EPCM team. This role is ideal for someone who is ready to move their career forward from a project co-ordination role into a project management role, with strong technical skills.   

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver small to medium-sized EA and permitting projects in Canada through leading multi-disciplinary teams to meet scope, schedule, budget and quality expectations
  • Exercise strong project management skills including preparing workplans, scheduling, budgeting and invoicing, allocating resources, reviewing reports, client liaison, government consultation
  • Identify and scope EA and permitting requirements and lead preparation of technical documents, including Environmental Impact Statements, permit applications and development of Environmental Management Plans
  • Promote positive environmental awareness with engineering personnel to drive environmental performance, for example guide project design team to mitigate environmental and social impacts through design
  • Support and lead proposals and other marketing efforts as required

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum B.Sc. or equivalent in a related discipline (Biology, Environmental Sciences, Hydrology) with professional registration with an accredited association in BC relevant to their expertise
  • Strong analytical, research and technical writing skills is mandatory
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary group and in a team environment

     

 

Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of provincial permitting legislation including the BC Environmental Management Act and associated regulations, Environmental Assessment Act, Water Sustainability Act, Mines Act, Lands Act, and Heritage Conservation Act
  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with federal environmental legislation and permitting requirements pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act 2012, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Navigation Protection Act, and Explosives Act
  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with RISC standards or more current professional standards, sampling methodologies, provincial best management practices, guidelines and policies

 

Additional Assets

 

  • Fluency in another language is an asset (French, Spanish)
  • Current first aid/CPR certification
  • Field sampling experience for baseline studies
  • Civil engineering design for fish habitat offsetting projects
  • Bioengineering
  • Consultation and engagement experience
