We are currently seeking a Structural Engineering Leader for our Trail, B.C. Your primary roles will be to act as a technical resource/mentor and leader on challenging projects and with our clients.  You will add your skill-set to our local structural team to lead the delivery of nimble technical solutions and support to our clients.  You will benefit from working with an excellent multi-discipline team in Trail and energize engagement with and leveraging of Hatch’s global team of structural specialists to best serve our client’s needs.  
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership in maintaining, growing and developing new client relationships
  • Providing efficient, effective, economical and timely solutions to structural design problems in a multidiscipline project environment
  • Mentoring and performing computer-aided modeling and analysis of steel and concrete structures
  • Developing technical specifications
  • Preparing quantity take-offs and developing project scopes, engineering and capital cost estimates
  • Conducting site visits and performing inspections of existing structures
  • Maintaining technical knowledge to ensure appropriate technologies are incorporated into designs and the most cost-effective design techniques are utilized
  • Provide Leadership and guidance to a team of junior engineers
  • Engage with the client on a regular bases to gain insight into anything that would require structural engineering support 
  • Review of vendor documents and shop drawings

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural design from a recognized university
  • 10-15+ years of experience working directly in the field of structural engineering
  • Must hold a Professional Engineering (PEng) License
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills with a commitment to achieving engineering excellence
  • Aptitude for working in multi-disciplinary teams and the ability to interact successfully with all levels of staff, clients and vendors
  • Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial drive to help maintain, grow and lead the structural skill-set and business
  • Substantial experience in structural analysis and design of mining and mineral processing plants or similar heavy industrial facilities. 
  • Strong hands-on working knowledge and experience with structural engineering analysis software, preferably StaadPro and SAP2000
  • In-depth knowledge and experience using Canadian codes and standards for heavy industrial structures
