We are currently seeking a Tunnel Engineer for our Vancouver Office.  If you have strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and understand innovation, we want to hear from you.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support design and construction of water supply, wastewater, hydroelectric and mass transit tunnel projects from concept to operation within multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Conduct desk studies, geotechnical investigations, analysis and design assignments
  • Coordinate subsurface geotechnical site investigations including geological mapping, test pits, borehole logging, soil and rock sampling, geophysics, and laboratory testing
  • Undertake numerical modelling analysis of tunnels and underground structures
  • Assist project managers and senior engineers to deliver infrastructure projects
  • Prepare management plans, site work logs, geotechnical reports, and tunnel design reports
  • Support delivery of Hatch’s engineering consultancy services to budget and schedule
  • Build good relationships with clients and maintain regular industry liaison
  • Develop your personal professional profile through publications in engineering journals
  • Maintain membership and active engagement with relevant professional institutions including the Tunneling Association of Canada

Qualifications:

  • Degree from an accredited university in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in geotechnics and tunnel/shaft design and/or construction
  • Currently registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Strong analytical and research skills with ability to review complex geological data and present findings in tables and graphs to communicate recommendations to non-experts
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to lead meetings, write progress reports and technical memos, and communicate contract issues to clients
  • Ability to oversee and manage a document/submittal management and sharing system
  • Confidence and strength of character to confront issues in the field and design office, and direct the contractor or advise the client where appropriate
  • Technical knowledge and experience in geotechnical site characterization and mapping
  • Experience with civil and geotechnical design software such as CAD, FLAC, Slope/W, etc.
  • Experience with applicable regulations and engineering standards in Canada
  • Available for travel to other Hatch offices, and to remote locations for site work
  • Adaptable and willing to learn from senior engineering professionals
  • The successful candidate will report to the Vancouver Tunnels Group Lead
