Hatch currently has an opening for a Charging System Design Lead in our Boston, MA office. This position will support sustainable transportation initiatives related to vehicle electrification. The position will be responsible for assisting our clients in developing operational, infrastructure, vehicle plans, and designs associated with transitioning heavy-duty vehicles such as buses and rail cars to zero emissions technologies. This is an mid-level position requiring 5-10 years of experience.

 

The ideal candidate is a motivated, results-driven professional interested in zero emissions technologies, environmental issues, building business opportunities, developing client relationships, and delivering technical expertise and value to our partners and clients. Being capable of working well with other employees or independently as well as strong oral and written communication skills when interacting with outside vendors and clients is essential for this position. Candidates should be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality.  

 

You bring to the role:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A Professional Engineering (P.E.) license in the state of Massachusetts
  • 5-10 years of charging system design experience. 
  • Background in fleet electrification, National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, and transit systems is preferred.
  • Have working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and other relevant charging system design standards and requirements.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation

 

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Complete conceptual, intermediate and final designs for the installation of charging systems and supporting infrastructure such as transformers, switch gears and resilient storage systems.
  • Prepare single-line drawings, control and metering schematics, substation drawings, conduit routing plans, cable lists, and other required documents.
  • Conduct load-flow simulations and analysis.
  • Develop charging system specifications.
  • Review and stamp (using P.E. license) final construction plans.
  • Support permitting process for the installation of charging systems.
  • Serve as a project manager on electrification projects.
  • Provide technical expertise to support cross-discipline project teams planning, designing and implementing rail, bus and paratransit solutions for our clients.
  • Help to right size electrical systems for hydrogen fueling and production stations.
  • Work with utilities to assess the impacts of electrifying large fleets.
  • Complete cost estimates associated with zero emissions transitions.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on bus and rail project planning, vehicles and maintenance infrastructure.
  • Develop bus and rail vehicle operational plans and related project elements including vehicle performance analysis and maintenance infrastructure plans.
  • Develop specifications and commercial terms for new vehicle and infrastructure procurements.
  • Develop cost estimates and life cycle analyses of charging systems.
  • Conduct fleet assessment and transition studies.
  • Review technical documents such as design plans and other engineering related deliverables.
  • Produce quality assurance plans and oversee quality control programs.
  • Prepare technical documents/reports and present to clients, project teams, etc.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Continuous, effective communication and relationship building with clients in the development and implementation of projects.
