Hatch is seeking a Landscape Designer to join its team in Salem, MA to assist with current and exciting future projects. The Salem team, formerly known as the Bioengineering Group, is a center of excellence focusing on landscape architecture, green infrastructure, sustainable site design, urban forestry, landscape restoration and climate change preparedness. Our capability spans through the whole project lifecycle, comprising conceptual design, feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction and project management.


Position Summary:


We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in sustainable landscape design that are well organized, thoughtful and creative. Candidates should be able to work independently as well as part of a large interdisciplinary team and have strong verbal, written and graphic communication skills. As a Landscape Designer, you will progress design concepts through design development and work with the project team to produce Construction Documents.  You will also provide analysis, design and construction observation support for a wide range of local, national and international projects.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Support our interdisciplinary team in the planning, designing, permitting and overseeing construction on a variety of site development and green infrastructure projects including transit developments, complete and green streets, parks and greenways, constructed wetlands, shoreline restoration and full site sustainable development
  • Support in the development of Construction Documents
  • Production of illustrative graphics, 3-D models, presentations and renderings
  • Construction oversight and field investigations


Desired Knowledge and Experience:


  • Bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture or Urban Planning
  • At least 5 years of landscape architectural design experience
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, GIS/ArcView and Photoshop
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Experience with MicroStation, InDesign, Sketchup, Illustrator is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with LEED® and SITES® rating systems is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of native plants a plus
  • Proficiency in French a plus
  • Portfolio or work samples will be required if considered for an interview
