The Australasian (AUA) Hatch Delivery Practices Group is currently seeking applications from experienced Construction Managers and Construction Engineers to assist with an increasing workload that includes work on challenging and interesting Projects of various sizes and complexity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and preparation, scheduling and budgeting, organisation and direction, execution and delivery of construction phase works within the Hatch projects. All work will be undertaken at the highest safety and quality levels within prescribed time and costs constraints.

The Construction Manager participates in project front end development phase studies from the conceptual and development stage through the feasibility phases, providing key construction and execution planning and input. During the project execution phase, the Construction Manager will be a key manager on the project team responsible for construction delivery of projects normally via an EPCM or client integrated team approach.

Key Responsibilities

Pending the role and project requirements the key responsibilities may typically include the following:

  • Responsible for all safety planning associated with the project construction execution methods and processes, with support of the Project Manager and Site Health and Safety Manager
  • Take a leading position for construction management within projects which may require leading a designated construction management team
  • Interface with engineering and support constructability processes and design for construction considerations
  • Ensure suitable construction planning processes are embedded in the overall Project Delivery process, including development of construction plans and work packs interfacing into the Hatch digital project delivery processes
  • Develop, review and approve construction estimates, budgets, forecasts and schedules
  • Review construction/erection drawings and specifications, develop strategies for erection interfaces, determine appropriate construction methods and pre-empt problem areas
  • Work with the Project Manager and the project core team of design engineers, procurement, planning and scheduling and other personnel as required to ensure timely and effective construction delivery
  • Site construction management and supervision of project teams, contractors and interfacing with client teams to safely deliver site based activities
  • Cooperate with the Pre-Operational Testing / Commissioning Manager and teams in the planning and interfacing of execution packages from construction to commissioning phase of projects
  • Support and actively be involved with the Hatch Construction delivery group for the AUA region

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated health and safety management focus in the construction phase of project delivery, and extensive knowledge of health and safety management procedures, safe work practices, and applicable legislation
  • Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Extensive construction management and site based construction experience
  • Strong leadership skills, the ability to lead a team and fit into a team environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Effective report writing skills, planning and organisational skills
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Able to communicate directly with the client on key issues
  • Extensive knowledge of all phases of project and construction operations relating to field activities of all engineering disciplines, construction and maintenance practices, procedures and techniques, and applicable codes and standards
  • Familiarity with a wide range of equipment, tools, and technologies used in construction
