Hatch is seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking Design Coordinator to join our team. This role is perfect for a seasoned engineering professional who brings a strong blend of systems insight, design process expertise, and practical engineering understanding. As a key player supporting the Engineering Manager, Layout Lead, and multidisciplinary design teams, you’ll drive project setup compliance, oversee critical systems outputs, and lead the planning, scheduling, and delivery of plant area design reviews.
If you thrive in complex environments, bring strong organisational capability, think Independently, and enjoy solving challenges with creativity and precision, you’ll excel here. In this role you’ll collaborate closely with project managers, clients, and engineers, continually expanding your technical capabilities as you help shape innovative, fit‑for‑purpose project solutions. If you’re motivated, detail‑driven, and looking to make a meaningful impact on major projects, we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a strong understanding of the project mission, owner/user requirements, and the overall layout and function of each plant area.
- Monitor all design and engineering systems to ensure alignment with project standards and discipline criteria, supporting issue resolution and highlighting risks associated with system assumptions.
- Ensure all disciplines have access to and are consistently applying project procedures, standards, modelling guidelines, and drawing production requirements.
- Establish and maintain design review files for each plant area, schedule regular multidisciplinary design reviews, document outcomes, and track follow‑up actions through to completion.
- Oversee model and drawing progress reporting, monitor discipline system outputs, and coordinate required corrective actions with discipline leads.
- Maintain strong coordination across functional groups as design progresses, ensuring effective clash detection practices and timely resolution of all interferences.
- Liaise with client representatives for key design review sign‑offs and facilitate broader project reviews, including design, operability, maintainability, constructability, and HAZOP assessments.
- Support additional project reviews as required.
Skills and Experience Required:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven years’ experience delivering major projects within multidisciplinary teams, with strong capability in applying project procedures, workflows, and discipline‑specific systems. They will possess solid knowledge of design, review, and reporting processes and technologies, along with a broad understanding of maintainability, constructability, procurement, commissioning, safety, and operational requirements. A good grasp of interdisciplinary dependencies is essential, supported by strong leadership, coordination, organisational, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. The candidate will demonstrate proven problem‑solving and decision‑making ability, consistently meeting cost, quality, and schedule targets while maintaining effective stakeholder relationships. An understanding of construction and commissioning methodologies, a commitment to engineering excellence, continuous learning, and the ability to apply technical knowledge to practical challenges are key. Above all, the role requires a strong personal commitment to safety in all aspects of work.
