Our Technologies team commercializes and delivers technologies across all three of Hatch's sectors: Metals, Energy, Infrastructure. We're a team of innovators and problem solvers who deliver custom and specialized engineering to deliver novel solutions and technologies.


We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our Hatch Technologies team in Australia. This team is focused on the commercialisation and delivery of technologies across all three of Hatch’s sectors: Metals, Energy, and Infrastructure, but with a specific focus on pyrometallurgical equipment design. We are a team of innovators and problem solvers who provide custom and specialised engineering to deliver novel solutions and technologies.  


In addition to developing new technologies and selecting and installing equipment in greenfield projects, we help our clients to get the most from their existing assets by providing field support, rebuild repairs, and retrofits. We also work with our clients to optimize their existing technologies to achieve the maximum benefit from them. 


As a successful candidate, you will:


  • Provide technical leadership to projects and create a highly committed and aligned team environment with all who can influence the project’s outcomes
  • Carries clear responsibility and accountability for delivery of the project goals as set down by the client/project manager. Coordinates client technical contacts, including major correspondence between Hatch and the client, and maintains working relationships at key levels throughout the period of the project
  • Participates in discipline reviews throughout the project lifecycle and ensures that the discipline leads actively manage best practices within each of their fields
  • Perform detailed design of custom multidiscipline systems used in proprietary Hatch equipment such as smelting furnaces and related pyrometallurgical system components
  • Apply engineering principles and perform calculations including thermal analysis of the linings of pyrometallurgical vessels, fluid flow analysis of water and air-cooled systems and stress analysis for mechanical components
  • Assist and manage the production of 3D model and drawing deliverables
  • Support the evaluation of process alternatives and/or equipment/technology selection trade-off studies, including evaluation of suitable materials of construction
  • Prepare equipment specification packages and technical project deliverables, reports, and presentations
  • Collaborate with process, structural and electrical engineers, and designers in the detailed design of custom equipment, including equipment design reviews, plant layout development and process hazard review studies
  • Provide site support, including field verification during construction and vendor fabrication assistance


You bring to the role:


Relevant qualifications in Engineering with over 10 years’ experience. You will have registration as a professional Engineer and working knowledge of detailed CAD design processes and packages; SolidEdge experience an asset, along with experience in the use of CFD/FEA (Ansys) packages an asset. You will be able to demonstrate critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and bring forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges, along with experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
