Hatch currently has an opening for a Field Engineer / Quality Inspector to support transit technology, infrastructure, and vehicle implementation projects across active transit and operational facilities. This position will support field inspections, QA/QC activities, construction coordination, site assessments, and engineering support efforts associated with ongoing transit modernization and technology deployment programs. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, and client representatives while supporting both field and office operations.

This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented, and mechanically inclined professional interested in field engineering, construction oversight, transit systems, infrastructure, and technology implementation. The position combines active field work with engineering and project support responsibilities including inspections, reporting, coordination, and technical assistance. Candidates should be capable of working independently within fast-paced operational environments while maintaining strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills and effectively coordinating with contractors, operations personnel, engineers, inspectors, and client staff.

 

You bring to role:

 

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Transportation, or related technical field preferred
• Military technical background, trade experience, or equivalent field experience will also be considered
• 2–7 years of experience in construction, inspection, transit, manufacturing, maintenance, QA/QC, or related technical environments
• Strong mechanical aptitude, technical problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Experience working in active field, operational, industrial, or construction environments preferred
• Ability to review drawings, specifications, inspection documentation, and technical reports
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project documentation tools preferred
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required

 

As the successful candidate, you will:

 

• Perform field inspections associated with transit technology, infrastructure, vehicle, and construction projects
• Support QA/QC activities across active project sites and operational environments
• Conduct site visits, document existing conditions, and support engineering assessments
• Identify, document, and communicate non-conforming conditions and support corrective action tracking
• Coordinate with project managers, contractors, manufacturers, and client representatives regarding project status and field conditions
• Support engineering and project management teams with technical documentation, reporting, scheduling, and coordination activities
• Review inspection reports, and quality documentation for completeness and accuracy
• Participate in testing, commissioning, and system verification activities
• Maintain organized project documentation including photographs, inspection records, and electronic files
• Work effectively within active transit, construction, and operational environments while maintaining awareness of safety requirements

Base Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)

  • Paid Time Away from Work: 3-4 weeks of vacation based on experience and company discretion, prorated in the 1st year based on hire date (up to 2.5 weeks can be carried over per year); 10 paid holidays; 10 sick days per calendar year, with the ability to carry-over sick time to a maximum of 40 days to be used for future FMLA-qualifying events; Partial Paid Parental leave up to 12 weeks for birth parents and 4 weeks for non-birth parents
