Hatch is currently seeking highly motivated Bus Inspectors to join our North American Infrastructure group within our Vehicle Production Oversight Team to work at multiple NYCT Bus Depots across all boroughs within New York City. This work takes place during day and night shifts.

 

In this role, the ideal candidate is a quality assurance professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment. ASQ certification as a Quality Engineer and/or Quality Inspector is preferred. High school diploma with technical schooling or associate degree is required. Additional experience and successful levels of responsibility may be considered as a substituted for technical schooling or an Associate Degree.

 

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Use your personal vehicle to arrive early at your assigned bus depot (Tolls are reimbursed).
  • Witness the replacement/removal of decommissioning components and systems, on buses and ensure, through inspection, that installation of new equipment is performed in accordance with installation instructions and approved drawings.
  • Clearly and concisely report all non-compliances found during the installation and/or test process.
  • Perform, and report on, significant installation challenges.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation upon completion of inspections & witnessed tests and submit this documentation on time. Documentation typically consists of hundreds of merged pdf and jpg files in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Read and interpret drawings, procedures, standards and use precision measuring devices.

 

You bring to the role:

  • An associate degree or a High School diploma with technical schooling
  • A minimum of 5 years of automotive/aircraft maintenance experience
  • Ability to work safely and professionally among others during potentially stressful situations.
  • Recognized industry certifications, such as ASQ Certified Quality Inspector/Engineer/Auditor are desired.
  • Broad-based knowledge of manufacturing processes, installation and removal of electromechanical assemblies, and best workmanship practices regarding wire routing, termination, sheet metal preparation (drilling, cutting, corrosion prevention).
  • Ability to work in accordance with approved specifications and drawings, changes or deviations as necessary.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, specifically MS Word, Excel, Adobe PDF and Outlook with the ability to combine multiple photos and documents into one clear and concise pdf file for submittal.
  • Realtime, clear, and concise communication among the inspection and management team via the mobile chat application.

 

The following skills/experience are a plus:

  • Maintenance experience servicing vehicles/aircraft using proper tooling and documentation.
  • Experience working with an operating bus company, transit agency or a bus building industry inspection firm.
  • Experience with vehicle production oversight

Schedule: On-site 5 days a week

Base Compensation: $75,000 - $105,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location). It should be noted that any overtime pay is paid at the direct hourly rate and not at time & half.
