Hatch Ltd. is a global employee-owned, multidisciplinary professional services firm that delivers a comprehensive array of technical and strategic services to the Infrastructure, Mining, and Energy sectors. The Geotechnical team specializes in geotechnical and geological engineering, subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, design of dam structures, mining, and hydrogeology, providing professional services to projects as a part of Hatch’s Project Delivery Group (PDG).

Hatch are seeking a qualified and highly motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join our Calgary office. Although the position will be based in Alberta, there will be opportunities for engagement on interesting, technically challenging, and high-profile projects worldwide. There are opportunities for fieldwork and travel across Canada and abroad.

The successful candidate will join our diverse multi-disciplinary team to provide geotechnical services on a variety of projects worldwide. In this role you will participate in a wide range of experiences, including ground investigations, geotechnical/geological analysis, advanced numerical modeling, and design for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase of large multi-disciplinary projects. Success in this role will require a strong understanding of geotechnical practices and principles, paired with an ability and willingness to learn new concepts both independently and through collaboration with your teammates.

 You bring to the role:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Geological Engineering from an accredited university. 
• Registered as an Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible for a professional license. 
• 4 to 8 years of relevant geotechnical experience.
• Sound understanding of geotechnical design codes and technical standards 
• Proficiency in the use of geological/geotechnical software suites (such as: GeoStudio, OpenGround, FLAC, PLAXIS, Settle3, Rocscience (Dips, RocPlane, RocFall, SWedge, Unwedge, Slide), Civil3D, etc.)
• Experience working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment and enthusiasm to further develop your technical skillset on a diverse range of projects
• Good communication and interpersonal skills 
• Effective planning and organizational skills and the ability to function with minimal supervision 
• Valid drivers license and a clean driving abstract
• Willing and able to travel to field locations, predominantly in Canada.
• Excellent safety awareness
• Fieldwork experience, construction supervision, and/or laboratory testing experience is considered an asset.

The successful candidate will:  

• Perform geotechnical design work, prepare project procedures, standard specifications, design criteria, engineering calculations and technical specifications. Stamp documents and drawings as required and if appropriately registered
• Participate in proposals and provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
• Provide field-based services such as site inspections, ground investigation supervision, and construction management
• Facilitate the sharing of technical expertise both across projects and across Hatch offices globally.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal clients within other business sectors, and external clientele.
