Hatch is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Hydropower and Dams team. This role is a unique opportunity for a technically strong individual who also thrives in project leadership and business development. You will play a key role in driving project success, building client relationships, and growing our business.

 

We are seeking an experienced engineer with design experience of electrical balance of plant and auxiliary electrical systems at hydroelectric generating stations. Such systems include low/medium/high voltage switchgears, transformers, motors and motor control centers, lighting, cabling, control systems, PLC’s, protection, and grounding.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Technical Leadership

  • Lead a project to deliver high-quality electrical engineering and design work on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and quality assurance for all electrical deliverables.
  • Prepare and review calculations, equipment specifications, and vendor documentation.
  • Check vendor drawings and data for compliance with specifications
  • Develop conceptual designs, studies, reports, and proposals.
  • Prepare detailed design, supply, construction and installation specifications.
  • Visit project sites and other Hatch design offices for project related activities as required.

 

Project Management

  • Serve as the Project Manager or Engineering Lead on select projects, overseeing scope, schedule, budget, and resource planning.
  • Coordinate with multi-discipline teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Track project metrics and proactively manage risks and issues.
  • Ensure effective communication with internal teams and client stakeholders.

 

Business Development

  • Actively contribute to client relationship management, identifying new opportunities and maintaining ongoing engagement.
  • Support proposal development, including scope definition, estimating, and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop strategic plans for market growth.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to enhance visibility and credibility.

 

Industry Expertise:

  • Experience in the Hydropower Industry.
  • Familiar with designing and maintaining electrical systems in hydroelectric power plants.
  • Leading a team in the design of power systems, including diagrams, layouts and detailed drawings for switchgear, control panels and power distribution centers.
  • Selecting and sizing electrical equipment, such as transformers, switchgear and control panels
  • Testing and commissioning electrical equipment and systems.
  • Familiar with SCADA systems design and operation and other plant control systems.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and have the ability to register in additional states as required.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably in an EPCM environment for industrial or energy sector projects.
  • Proven experience in project management or engineering management.
  • Knowledge of industry, regulatory codes, and standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and dynamic environments.
