Hatch Associates Consultants, Inc., Senior Traction Power Engineer (Multiple Positions), Chicago, IL: Install Traction Power Substations in a railroad/transit environment. Design traction power substations, feeder and equipment sizing, site plans, duct bank and conduit layouts, grounding systems, auxiliary power supply systems, and control circuits. Coordinate with other electrical engineers for systems integration and design. Lead a group of junior electrical engineers to develop traction power design packages. Perform load flow simulations and prepare electrical engineering reports. Develop electrical engineering documents, including specifications, drawings and cost estimates. Review project submittals and requests for information from contractors. Provide Traction Power Substation testing and commissioning support to clients. Help oversee and drive traction power projects to completion. 40 hours per week, M-F (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.). The salary range is $150,000 - $202,000 per year.

Requirements:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience.

 

Of the required experience, must have 10 years of experience in all of the following: DC traction power systems design including the design of 600 to 1500 Volt DC rail transit traction; Designing power substations; Design of AC and DC switchgear; transformers, rectifiers, and controls; and NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and local codes, as applicable to design of Traction Power systems for the railroad/transit industry.

 

Must be willing and able to travel domestically up to 10% of the time to construction sites, laboratories for equipment testing, clients’ design meetings as well as conferences and

technical forums.
