Sr Piping Engineer (UK) 

The Mechanical & Piping Group is a Hatch global practice providing Mechanical design expertise to a wide variety of Hatch's commodity-based business practices. Our capability spans through the entire project lifecycle comprising; scoping, conceptual design, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies, detailed engineering, construction support and engineering/project management. The group supports all of Hatch’s sectors including energy, oil and gas and infrastructure.

Our UK team is currently seeking a dedicated Senior Piping Engineer to assist project work in our preferred locations of the Culham Oxfordshire or Dorking offices or in our London office, and in the field.  The Senior Piping Engineer will join the project team involved in developing a commercially-viable fusion demonstration plant for clean, safe and sustainable future and will broadly responsible for establishing system requirements, performing functional analyses, preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports while mentoring and leading junior engineers.  In addition, the Senior Piping Engineer will be leading teams of engineers and designers within multidisciplinary projects while supporting the piping lead or engineering manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist or lead the definition of piping project scope
• Lead the piping engineering team and ensure delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule
• Perform system analyses, establish user requirements, analyze system functional and performance requirements, define design criteria, and provide input to the design team on piping layouts and designs
• Prepare, review or check engineering calculations such as hydraulic modeling, stress analysis, line sizing while ensuring that all analyses satisfy user and system requirements
• Prepare or check technical piping specifications, bid evaluations, piping lists, construction scope of work
• Conduct interface management between related systems and disciplines.
• Manage and review engineering work packages associated with project deliverables including management of project budgets and schedule.
• Prepare, review or check technical deliverables such as piping material specifications, data sheets, line lists, manual valves, piping specialty items, supports MTOs.
• Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
• Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
• Provide mentorship and guidance to the engineering team within the piping group.
• Prepare, review or check project standard specifications and design criteria
• Provide input to 3D models and 2D piping drawings
• Participate in and contribute to design reviews
• Assist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reports
• Assist with technical queries raised during the construction phase
• Assist in the commissioning of systems on site if required

Qualifications and Experience:

• A recognized BSc/BEng in mechanical or industrial engineering in UK
• Registration as a professional/chartered engineer in UK or eligible to register.
• Minimum 5 to 10 years of project engineering experience in a heavy industrial EPCM environment.
• Experience with high pressure and high temperature piping systems, and in leading piping teams in multi-disciplinary projects.
• Good knowledge of UK industry standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the engineering discipline
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good planning and organizational skills
• Knowledgeable with engineering management systems, deliverable progress measurement
• Experience in client engagement with both Greenfield and Brownfield interfaces
• Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise engineers and designers.
• Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects
