Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated instrumentation and control engineer to be based in our Dorking (preferred), Culham or London office, in United Kingdom to join the project team involved in developing a commercially-viable fusion power plant for clean, safe and sustainable future.

You will support our senior and intermediate engineers in delivering projects which involve power distribution, instrumentation, and controls engineering. You will also be responsible for assisting the development and management of assigned project work during all phases, from inception trough planning, design & construction in accordance with the project scope, schedule, and budget.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team to complete electrical and controls engineering design deliverables for a variety of projects
  • Assist in the preparation of technical specifications for equipment procurement and construction contracts
  • Participate in developing project deliverables including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), instrument datasheets, control system philosophies, communications network diagrams/architecture, schematics, wiring diagrams, instrument lists, loop drawings, bill of materials, panel layouts, equipment specification and datasheets, equipment lists and material take-offs.
  • Assist with the completion of automation, instrumentation & control engineering activities with the objective of meeting the defined contractual scope to the relevant codes, standards and Hatch’s procedures.
  • Become knowledgeable with electrical/Instrumentation design and their practical applications, UK codes and standards (BS, IEC, etc.), and Hatch’s quality procedures 
  • Work collaboratively in a multi-discipline environment to deliver the best solution for our clients
  • Assist our senior engineers and designers with their responsibilities including but not limited to checking engineering deliverables, attending design reviews, quality reviews, and participating in site inspections and walkdowns
  • Willing and able to travel to project sites (office and construction) 

 

 Education, Skills and Qualifications:

  • A recent graduate or someone with two to five years of experience, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution in UK
  • Eligible to become a professional/ chartered Engineer in UK
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and collaboration skills
  • Strong interest in learning applicable codes and standards
  • Aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of control systems
  • Self-motivated and hardworking
  • Strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactiveness with an eagerness to learn, and continuously develop.
  • Ability work both in a team environment and independently. 
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Site and commissioning experience will be considered an asset
  • Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges
