The Electrical Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The Electrical Engineer will participate in developing project deliverables including power system studies, protective relaying, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagram, cable tray layout/schedule, engineering calculations, bill of materials, lighting and earthing/bonding, panel layouts, equipment sizing, electrical equipment specifications and datasheets, load lists, equipment lists and material take-offs. This role can be based from our Dorking (preferred), Culham or London office.

 

The Electrical Engineer reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on a small project.

 

Key responsibilities:  

  • Assist the Engineering Manager/ Lead Electrical Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
  • Perform design calculations and document findings and recommendations in a report
  • Prepare single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment layouts
  • Prepare electrical design calculation including voltage drop, earthing, lighting, etc.
  • Prepare procurement packages (equipment specifications, technical bid evaluations, vendor data review) for a variety of electrical equipment
  • Review equipment operating manuals and test procedures
  • Have a willingness to travel to sites for short periods (1 day to 2 weeks) to participate in meetings, conducting inspections, commissioning, and testing
  • Available to go to site for installation and commissioning of electrical equipment

 

 Education, Skills and Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution, in UK
  • 2 to 5 years of professional experience, including relevant experience in the following:
      • Experience with design of electrical equipment including low/medium/high voltage switchgear, transformers, motors and motor control centers, diesel generators, lighting, cables and cable raceway systems, and earthing
      • Working knowledge of process controls and instrumentation will be considered an asset
      • Experience with load flow, short-circuit, and arc flash modelling software (EasyPower, ETAP, or SKM)
      • Experience with MicroSoft office tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)  and Computer Design Tools (Mathcad, MicroStation, AutoCAD) will be considered an asset
      • Knowledgeable of UK electrical design and their practical applications, codes, and standards (BS, IEC, IEEE etc.)
      • Strong written and verbal communication skill, interpersonal and relationship management skills
      • Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams
      • Strong client focus and a desire to achieve results including the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines
      • Registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Professional/ Chartered Engineer in UK
      • Site and commissioning experience will be considered an asset
