We currently have a Senior Structural engineer role to be based in our Dorking (preferred), Culham or London office, United Kingdom to join the project team involved in developing a commercially-viable fusion power plant for clean, safe and sustainable future.
The Sr Structural Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The Sr Structural Engineer participates in a wide range of projects covering concrete foundations and structural steel design. Activities include layout development and structural analysis of industrial structures for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects.
The Sr Structural Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, supervising the work of designers, intermediate and junior engineers, and developing technical specifications, data sheets and reports.
The Sr Structural Engineer reports to the Lead Structural Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on a small project.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Engineering Manager/ Lead Structural Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
- Work to ensure the implementation of safety and integrity principles in structural documentation
- Promote compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities
- Maintain structural engineering work procedures, specifications, and computer aided design programs
- Prepare engineering calculations
- Prepare technical specifications based on input received from other disciplines
- Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
- Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
- Prepare and/or review project standard specifications and design criteria
- Participate in and contribute to design reviews
- Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule
- Sign documents and drawings as required and if appropriately registered
- Manage small capital and maintenance projects
- Assist in defining project scope
- Assist in preparing proposals
- Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, and designers.
- Assist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reports.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- A recognized degree in structural engineering from an accredited university, preferred in UK
- Professional / Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council
- 5 - 10 years’ experience in relevant local (British) structural design and management
- Sound understanding of local (British) design engineering codes and technical standards
- Experience in the use of StaadPro, Mathcad and SAP 2000
- Experience with Microstation or other 3D datacentric design systems
- Understanding of the approvals and permits required for work in the industrial sector
- Experience in industrial projects focusing on energy / oil and gas sector
- Ability to manage and delegate to individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives
- Experience with working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good planning and organizational skills
- Ability to function with minimal supervision
- Good safety awareness.
Preferred
- Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
- Experience working in heavy industrial projects type organisation
