Summary

 

The role of a senior architect is to lead the architectural design, working directly with designers, technologists, engineers, and project managers to deliver diverse projects, buildings and facilities successfully. In addition, they are in constant engagement and coordination with CAD managers and document controllers, estimators, sub-consultants, specialists, and SMEs. The senior architect assumes accountability for projects planning, execution, and delivery.

  • Attain clientele and establish work networks.
  • Develop technical and disciplinary strategies, standardizing documents, and procedures to yield company growth.
  • Engage with stakeholders and clients representing governmental agencies, professional organizations, product suppliers, manufacturers, etc.
  • Reach out to potential clients, respond to RFP’s and win work for Hatch.
  • Lead delivery teams, mainly architectural staff, but often steering the decisions of all disciplines involved in designing a building or facility.
  • Plan, oversee, direct and guide project the delivery of feasibility studies, conceptual design, code analysis, schematic design, detailed design, construction documentation (drawings, reports, and specifications), construction administration.
  • Oversee senior, intermediate, and junior staff activities taking responsibility for their work and mentoring them to develop their skills and capacities.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Attributes:

  • 15+ years of work experience.
  • Graduated with a professional degree in architecture from an accredited post-secondary institution or have completed the RAIC Syllabus Program.
  • Completed the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) with any of the provisional self-regulating organizations governed by the Architects Act of Canada.
  • Holds an architectural license issued by any of the provincial self-regulating organizations governed by the Architects Act of Canada.
  • Has proficient understanding of international, national, regional, and local building codes, by-laws, design guidelines, and regulations.
  • Has extensive working knowledge of graphic standards, CCDC, CHOP, technical standards, material and performance certifications, standards, and testing organizations such as LEED, ULC, ANSI, ASTM, CAN/CSI, NFPA, etc.
  • Has performed integration of multi-disciplinary design with all the disciplines involved in a building or facility through the project’s different phases. Essentially with disciplines such as structural, civil, drainage, roads, constructability, landscape, sustainability, signage, illumination, acoustics, building envelope, energy modeling, mechanical, electrical, communications and utilities.
  • Prepared work plans, staffing plans, schedules, project scope of work, budgets, deliverable lists, task sheets, and other tools required for project planning.
  • Directed the production of construction drawings that include but are not limited to context plans, site plans, floor plans, demolition plans, renovation plans, roof plans, exterior elevations, interior sections, wall sections, details, schedules, etc.
  • Organized the production of construction documents such as building code compliance reviews, technical specifications, performance specifications. Stamped and signed construction and technical documents as required by the projects.
  • Directed the production and review of technical documentation such as design briefs and reports, design basis and criteria, material take-offs, vendor documents, bids, and project sheets.
  • Performed and directed construction administration tasks providing input to documents such as RFIs, shop drawings, samples, site instructions, change orders, bill of materials, cost estimates, site visits, etc.
  • Managed the production of 3D renderings, animations, visual presentations, and graphical material to convey design intent. Software includes Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, SketchUp, Rhino, 3DMax, Vray, Lumion, etc.
  • Have worked with essential design software for production of drawing delivery such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, AECOsim, Open Buildings, and other programs.
  • Presented architectural designs to consultants and disciplines for stakeholder approval, authority having jurisdictions, design review panels, etc.
  • Assisted the client in obtaining permits required for occupancy.
  • Worked with administrative software such as MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, ProjectWise, MS Teams, Webex, etc.
  • Worked in fast-paced team environments while simultaneously managing multiple projects on different software platforms. Ability to learn new standards, skills, software, and tools required to perform the work.
