With expertise in sustainable studies, asset building and operations, and industry-leading efficiencies, our best-in-class team leverages methodologies, governance and systems that are unparalleled in the engineering space. Are you looking for an opportunity to join a diverse group of professionals who are committed to remaining exceptional? We look forward to hearing from you.
We are seeking a results-driven engineering professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be tasked with development of conceptual designs and contract documents sufficient to allow a qualified contractor to implement state-of-the-art communications networks for various clients, primarily transit agencies from around the world. International travel to client sites may be required.
Our clients rely on us to help them procure new systems and assist their staff and contractors in ensuring rail and transit systems are built to specification and operate as intended, while minimizing our clients’ risk and optimizing costs based on their needs. Work will include establishing design criteria, writing specifications, developing conceptual designs, preparing cost estimates, reviewing contractors’ design and other data, and overseeing testing and commissioning/cut-over of the various communications networks, data centers, and systems. Communications systems and networks are used by operations departments to dispatch fleets, as well as by various safety, control, and ticketing systems. Systems in dedicated rights-of-way also support administrative networks. Work often takes place on an operating railroad or transit system in a so-called “brownfield” environment where planning, execution, and field validation are all critical activities the successful candidate will participate in. Our engineers are key people in our clients’ organizations, bringing new services and systems on-line. Project management experience is highly desirable.
Requirements
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent, and a minimum of 10 years of experience in the application of current communication infrastructure and technologies, as well as knowledge and experience in the following:
- BICSI and other international standards and regulations
- Design of detailed fiber optic system infrastructure plans including outside plant, control rooms and data centers
- Design of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and data aggregation equipment
- Design of CCTV and Access Control systems including supporting networks
- Design of wireless voice and data systems for rail vehicles and facilities
- Design of Passenger Information Signage and Public Address systems for stations and buildings
- Backup power systems for communication-related applications
- Developing requirements for appropriate physical and cyber security controls to safeguard network access and other vital electronic infrastructure
- Design, implementation, administration and optimization of enterprise network management systems and monitoring utilities such as HP Open View, SolarWinds or equivalent
- Network throughput, latency, and reliability design and calculations
- Design and implementation of disaster recovery plans and disaster recovery quality assurance tests for the network infrastructure to ensure business continuity
- Ethernet core protocols and common extensions
- Skilled in the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, cost estimating, field verification, inspection and testing
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.
Candidates with certifications, knowledge and experience with networking products/technologies are preferred. BICSI RCDD certification, Professional Engineering licensure, and Project Management Institute certification are highly desirable but not required. Experience in the transit/transportation industry is a must. Applicants should have the ability to travel internationally if required.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
