Hatch, a full service engineering consultancy, is seeking Junior CAD Technician to join our team in Houston, TX. Hatch’s Houston office is a center of innovation in digital technologies for power, automation, controls, communication, physical and cyber security, and smart city solutions. Our team consists of highly specialized electrical, communication and technology engineers focused on applying emerging technologies to critical infrastructure projects. This challenging position involves working as part of a highly specialized team focused on planning and design of electrical, automation and communications systems for water, transportation, and industrial projects.


Duties & Responsibilities:


Responsibilities include working closely with engineers and designers in the development of construction documents. By applying company based standards, the Junior CAD Technician will complete drafting assignments, such as the preparation of various drawings derived from redlined layouts and sketches. The Junior CAD Technician will work under the technical guidance of Engineers and Designers to develop the skills necessary to actively assist in the design process. Ultimately, the Junior CAD Technician will develop the skills to advance to Designer positions within the firm.


  • Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D/3D CAD software as required.
  • Produce designs and drawings for electrical systems, i.e. motor control center schematic diagrams, protection block diagrams, cable schedules, single line drawings, power distribution layouts, general arrangement drawings and grounding/earthing designs.
  • Complete cable tray/rack routing and design 3D modelling.
  • Apply the requirements of IEC/IEEE/or local codes/standards as applicable to the respective project in executing electrical design work.
  • Check drawings prior to release.
  • Ensure coordination with designers and engineers of other disciplines.
  • Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models.
  • In conjunction with electrical engineering staff, produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for identified and approved concepts/projects.
  • Participation in formal engineering review processes.
  • Verify on-site condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities.


Candidate Qualifications:


  • CAD Technology Degree or equivalent is required.
  • Previous internship experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software.
  • BIM or Microstation software training and experience a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects.
  • IT systems training and certifications a plus.
  • Ability to work closely with others in team environment.
  • Solid verbal communication skills.
