Hatch is currently seeking a Process Engineer- Battery Cell Assembly Manufacturing to join our Metals Practice in Pittsburgh, PA and Houston, TX. Our team consists of highly specialized engineers focused on applying emerging technologies to support Gigafactory projects across the USA!
Responsibilities
- The battery cell process engineer will provide extensive support to the product design and manufacturing implementation efforts focusing on the assembly packaging process, formation end-of-line process
- Technical expert for the developing battery cell processes including Process Flow Diagram (PFD), equipment planning and approval of cell equipment specifications
- Work with equipment suppliers on design, build, validation and start-up of cell process equipment and automation
- Optimization of cell manufacturing line layout for assembly and formation end of line processes
- Support construction teams with specifications on building and facility requirements for assembly and formation end of line processes
- Support implementation of the safety specifications and equipment safety reviews
- Develop strategies for implementation of next generation battery cell technology
- Interface with leadership and support development of battery cell manufacturing strategies
- Support start-up and ramp up of manufacturing plants
- Development and implementation of Bill of Process and Bill of Equipment
- Plan and execute Design of Experiments (DoEs) to characterize boundary conditions and optimize process for manufacturability and quality
- Build process documentation to accurately define the process for equipment, quality, production etc.
- Continuously improve safety, quality, responsiveness, and cost
- Apply creativity and initiative
- Work with Product Engineering to ensure manufacturing and design requirements are compatible
Qualifications
- 2+ years of industry experience in Battery Cells Manufacturing Assembly Packaging, Formation End-of-Line Process, or Factory Automation for Battery Cell processes and/or 2+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Development, Project Execution, or similar area
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Metalurgical Engineering.
- Experience applying process and equipment specifications and working developing manufacturing systems
- Experience with installation, debug, and start-up of high-volume manufacturing equipment
- Solid understanding of lean manufacturing
