Hatch is currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join our expanding Ports & Marine team in our Houston Texas office. The Structural Engineer will be assigned to Senior Project Managers and are expected to be productive with minimal oversight.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Applying engineering principles to provide efficient, effective, economical, and timely technical solutions to civil and structural problems in multivariable and multidiscipline project environments;
  • Performing non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project which may have limited scope or constitute a portion of a larger interrelated project;
  • Collecting, reviewing, and analyzing a variety of engineering data to meet engineering objectives;
  • Conducting site visits and performing inspections of existing infrastructure, verify onsite condition and dimensions;
  • Preparing and/or directing reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, inspection reports, and designs;
  • Maintaining technical knowledge to ensure appropriate technologies are incorporated into designs and most cost-effective design techniques are utilized;
  • Mentoring junior engineers;
  • Signing and sealing calculations, reports, plans, and specifications developed by Engineers under the individuals responsible charge.

 

Professional Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering university or college (concentration in Structural preferred);
  • PE designation is a must and the ability to quickly become registered in additional states;
  • 6-12 years of design experience with heavy industrial terminals, ports, maritime, material handling areas or related projects;
  • Experience with liquids terminals is an asset;
  • Strong technical skills in design formulation, analysis, execution, documentation, and presentation of civil/structural and geotechnical issues;
  • Working knowledge of current US codes: AISC (steel), and ACI 318 (concrete), ASCE 7 & ICC-IBC (building);
  • Demonstrated experience with CADD programs, Structural Design F.E.A. software (RISA 3D, STADD, or similar), and structural analysis programs;
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as part of multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Permitting, construction inspection, and field investigation experience are considered an asset;
  • Current holder of, or have no restrictions to obtain, Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC);
  • Must be willing to travel to clients and job sites both local and abroad.
