Key Responsibilities 

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects from start to finish while remaining in compliance with safety regulations, project schedule, drawing specifications, quality guidelines and budget; 

  • Conduct constructability reviews of engineering drawings and specifications during the initial execution phase; 

  • Coordinate with site logistics personnel to ensure seamless delivery of contractor materials to work areas; 

  • Report to the project management team, through the surface construction manager; 

  • Manage, and provide guidance and technical support to contractors within assigned area; 

  • Monitor/supervise work in all phases within assigned area and discipline; 

  • Assist contractors with interpretation, clarification, interference resolution and QA/QC related matters; 

  • Assist with management of site Health and Safety Program; 

  • Steward a safe working environment with contractors and comply with all environmental, health, and safety policies; 

  • Proactively work with contractors to ensure project safety and quality objectives are achieved; 

  • Assist General Superintendent/Construction Manager with planning and scheduling to facilitate timely and cost-effective execution of contractor scope; 

  • Candidates will have experience and be well versed in design drawings, specifications, and construction contracts; 

  • Ensure construction conforms to the drawings/specifications and construction best practices are followed by assigned contractors; 

  • Ensure efficient use of materials and equipment by assigned contractors; 

  • Monitor contractors performance throughout the project and offer corrective solutions (where required/agreed) in consultation with General Superintendent/Construction Manager; 

  • Assist project team with the reviews/estimates of contractor extras, track performance during execution of additional scope; 

  • Monitor the 3 week look-ahead schedules submitted by Contractors through execution and report deviations to the General Superintendent/Construction Manager; 

  • Submit daily progress reports to the General Superintendent outlining contractor progress, achievements, issues/concerns and other relevant information as required by management; 

  • Ensure contractors create/maintain deficiency lists and complete items prior to handover to commissioning; 

  • Ensure assigned contractors complete turnover documentation in a timely manner, review/accept ITPs, check sheets and QVDs prior to system handover to commissioning; 

  • Other assigned duties as required. 

  

 

 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Technical Engineering Diploma or Journeyperson certification with 5+ years of construction supervisory/management experience in an industrial setting required; 

  • Previous experience in a Piping/Mechanical Superintendent role; 

  • Previous computer experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;  

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines; 

  • Understanding of construction budgets; 

  • Ability to use, interpret and track performance against established contractor schedules; 

  • Solid knowledge/understanding/appreciation of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies/procedures, ensure contractors conduct work in accordance with established project HSE requirements; 

  • Direct/mentor contractor supervisory staff and evaluate trades workforce; 

  • Standard mobility required with ability to work in cold weather environment and tolerate exposures to temperature extremes, and noise typically found in an industrial construction setting; 

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
