Application Specialist -Smart Materials


Hatch uses Hexagon Smart Materials (including Smart Reference Data) for the planning and controlling the definition, acquisition and movement of material throughout the project lifecycle.

Smart Materials (SMat) provides an end-to-end solution for materials management and procurement to manage the project supply chain to ensure materials, equipment and services are available on site in a timely manner.



System and Integration Delivery

Work as part of the global team to:

  • Develop / Maintain a standard build for SMat in collaboration with Discipline Process Leads for Material Management
  • Develop / Maintain training documentation for SMat
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer of SMat to project teams
  • Review and assist definition of discipline workflows and procedures of SMAT
  • Maintain direct working relationship with Projects Leads to assure mutual understanding, development and attainment of objectives, plans and requirements for the implementation of SMat
  • Ensure integrity of entire material management workflow in relation to individual discipline process and usage
  • Provide addition assistance to trouble shoot system problems as required
  • Participate in testing of new versions and upgrades

Regional Coordination

  • Review regional and project specific SMAT requirements and assist resolution of requirements in the optimal manner
  • Promotes the understanding of SMAT and the benefit of use through education of the regional teams
  • Audit project deployment of iPas MP



Supervision Received

Reports to and receives management direction from the Regional Procurement Manager and the Procurement Systems Global Discipline Director

Supervision Exercised

Provides subject matter expertise to project coordinators



  • Has a thorough knowledge of EPCM workflows and SMAT system.
  • Experience in ‘free issue’ bulk material supply chain activities in the engineering consultancy industry, large projects
  • Well developed communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong customer focus, ability to prioritise and manage time
  • Proactive approach, self-starter, shows initiative and communicates
  • Ability to comprehend, analyse and clearly document work processes, across disciplines or practices
  • Ability to interpret, write and apply procedures
  • Minimum 5 year experience with Smart Materials Software



  • Experience with data integration between engineering, procurement, construction, fabrication, project controls, planning and estimating applications & databases.
