The Civil and Concrete Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports for both front-end planning studies and the detailed engineering phase, civil foundation and structural steel design for multi-disciplinary projects. Activities include site investigation and civil/structural finite element modeling for both front-end planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for multidiscipline projects.

 

This role requires extensive travel and the incumbent would need to travel to East Asia and work a 8/3 rotation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Working to ensure a safe and robust infrastructure at the project facility.
  • Working independently evaluating, selecting, and applying Hatch standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.  Assignments require forward thinking and the investigation of several variables.
  • Acting as responsible Engineer on nominated projects
  • Assisting with developing project scopes, engineering estimates, capital cost estimates and developing repair methodologies.
  • Application of innovative engineering solutions
  • Engineering design of new structures or components thereof.
  • Engineering design of repairs to structures or components thereof.
  • Preparation of specifications.
  • Report preparation.
  • Structural inspections of existing facilities.
  • Supervision of sub- consultants and contractors.
  • Delivery of timely and efficient civil and structural solutions to the Client.
  • Ensuring that project work exceeds the customer's expectations
  • Maintaining technical knowledge to ensure appropriate technologies are incorporated into designs and most cost-effective design techniques are utilised.

 

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in civil engineering with a strong consulting element.
  • 10 years’ structural design experience in industrial structures.
  • Sound knowledge of design codes and standards.
  • Strong customer focus
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multi discipline project teams
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to assess ageing structures and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Experience with structural design software such as Prokon or Staad Pro
  • High level analytical skills and experience with FEA software
  • Commercial and safety awareness. 
  • Significant post graduate work experience includes large scale design of heavy industrial plants. 
  • Sound knowledge with concrete and steel design.
