The Senior Project Manager – Water Tunnel Infrastructure will serve as the Team Leader responsible for the overall delivery, coordination, and contract administration of the Polihali Transfer Tunnel project. The role ensures successful execution of design and construction supervision activities in line with project objectives, timelines, and quality standards. This position will be based in Lesotho (full-time) and will be a 12-month Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extention.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and management of the project team
• Act as the primary liaison between the Client and project stakeholders
• Oversee contract administration in accordance with FIDIC conditions
• Supervise design and construction activities for underground works
• Monitor project progress, budgets, risks, and compliance
• Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across engineering and construction functions
• Report on project performance and key milestones

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Degree in Civil Engineering
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng or equivalent)

Experience:

• Minimum 20 years’ post-graduate experience in civil engineering
• Proven experience in major underground works (design and construction)
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in water resource development projects
• Including intakes, tunnels, and associated infrastructure
• At least 5 years’ experience working with FIDIC contracts
• Experience working in Africa or similar developing environments

Technical scope:

• Intake works and gate shaft at Polihali Reservoir
• Approx. 38 km long, 5 m diameter water transfer tunnel
• Ventilation and dewatering shafts
• Outlet works and connection to Katse Reservoir
• Access adits and supporting infrastructure
• Construction facilities including roads, quarries, and accommodation

Construction Methods:

• Drill & Blast
• Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)
