Our Technologies team is focused on the commercialisation and delivery of technologies across all three of Hatch’s sectors: Metals, Energy, Infrastructure. We’re a team of innovators and problem solvers who deliver custom and specialized engineering to deliver novel solutions and technologies.

 

Hatch’s Specialised Engineering Analysis & Design (S.E.A.D.) group is a multidisciplinary engineering team who have advanced-level training and in-depth expertise in various core areas and numerical analysis techniques.  The team’s focus is on solving real-world problems where standard design practices, empirical methods, and “rules of thumb” are not sufficient.  The SEAD group utilises a wide range of engineering analysis and design tools for the successful execution of projects.  Numerical analysis tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and data analytics are commonly used in combination with experimental and field data to develop engineering solutions for Hatch’s clients. 

The SEAD group works in close collaboration with engineers from the other business units at Hatch who are recognized experts in their respective fields.  Practical, cost effective solutions are delivered to clients by combining the practical engineering know-how and experience of these engineers with the specialised expertise within the SEAD group.

 

 

 

 As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Display and actively promote behavior aligned with Hatch’s goal of achieving a Total Safety Culture both in the office and on site.
  • Engage and maintain relationships with clients.  This would include, but not be limited to:
    • Visiting the client in order to fully understand the problem, conducting / supervising plant testing if required, preparing a proposal and subsequently following up on the proposal
    • Introducing clients to the broader offering of both the SEAD group and Hatch in general, as required
    • Manage the project in cases where SEAD perform work directly for an external client.  Invoicing, scope changes and internal governance activities (approving man-hours, project expenses etc.) are included.
  • Ensure that quality is always maintained both in the work performed personally and that executed by analysts being supervised.  This would include the completion of CFD QA checklists, the review of reports and the checking of analysis results.
  • For any problem determine, obtain and review all required information.  Considering the goals of the work and client expectations, determine the most suitable approach for the investigation.  Select the most appropriate analysis tools and identify and engage experts or services (internally or externally) as required.
  • Interact and coordinate activities with other engineers, designers, project managers and project support personnel both locally and internationally as required to fulfil SEAD’s responsibility on any particular project.
  • Prepare presentations and reports as required to transmit results to internal and external clients
  • Attend appropriate conferences and seminars to ensure that Hatch is kept abreast of new analysis techniques and application areas.  It is expected that papers are written, presented at conferences and published in recognized journals when suitable opportunities present themselves.
  • Attend advanced training courses associated with analysis codes, physical models and other appropriate numerical analysis tools

 

You bring to the role:

  • BSc engineering in the mechanical or chemical engineering disciplines
  • Post graduate studies associated with fluid mechanics, heat transfer, turbulence, and numerical analysis
  • 6 – 8 years of active, hands on experience applying CFD modelling to industrial problems.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial CFD code(s)
  • Excellent academic performance and a demonstrated interest in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) used in an industrial equipment context.
  • Strong fundamentals in theory and application of fluid mechanics and heat transfer / CFD.
  • Has taken courses and / or done numerical simulations at a post -graduate level, or in another role, and demonstrates a passion and aptitude for numerical analysis.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team on challenging projects.
  • Organizational ability to manage multiple projects / priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fast learner with an eagerness to develop engineering fundamentals and apply them to solving challenging real-world problems and projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Strong safety and quality focus

 

Desirable

  • MSc engineering, ideally with a significant CFD focus
  • PhD engineering, ideally with a significant CFD focus
  • Advanced user of one or more of the most common CFD codes (including, but not limited to ANSYS Fluent / ANSYS CFX / Siemens STAR-CCM+)
  • Good knowledge of multiphase flows & processes
  • Experience in an experimental environment (research institute, R&D division, university)
