As the successful candidate, you will: 

  • be a hands-on Senior Systems Engineer with experience in engaging industrial clients to drive innovative application of digital solutions.  
  • This will involve:
    • Effectively lead the integration processes between the control, operation, and enterprise domains
    • Architectural design of systems in layer 2 and 3
    • Configuration, deployment and implementation of systems in layer 2 and 3
    • Integration of new systems with existing client applications, control systems and IT infrastructure
    • Analysis of functional requirements, identification of appropriate solutions, and implementation to deliver on the functional requirements
    • Engagement with colleagues and clients to scope, estimate and design on-premises and/or cloud-based digital solutions for clients in the metals and mining, energy, and infrastructure 
    • Contribute to the selection, development and maintenance of technologies, standards, and guidelines for use by the Digital team.

 

You bring to the role: 

  • Conduct workshops and discovery sessions with internal and external stakeholders to define scope of work, system requirements, develop technical specifications and draft functional requirements specifications for OT systems
  • Work with clients to identify process control information and data sources required for operations and business systems
  • Collect, analyze, review, document and communicate business, operational and maintenance needs, recommendations, and requirements and maintain a detailed knowledge of requirements for solutions deployed to Hatch clients
  • Responsible for the architectural design, development, and deployment of industrial systems targeted at ISA Layers 2 and 3
  • Establishes, implements, and documents the system integration strategies and requirements
  • Identification and mapping of existing systems and their interfaces, specifically the interface requirements between control systems and industrial systems in higher layers 
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of Hatch Digital solutions 
  • Ensure that solutions adhere to data security and privacy policies within Hatch and client organizations
  • Test, troubleshoot and debug solutions including testing of communications protocols between DCS/PLC systems and manufacturing / operational systems.  
  • Responsible to ensure deliverables are technically correct and meet industry and project standards 
  • Manage projects or digital workstreams within larger projects as part of an integrated team working to deliver successful outcomes for Hatch clients and maintain responsibility for systems work packages to ensure that project budgets and schedules are being met.  Specific measures of performance will be discussed with and agreed upon with the successful candidate but will include:
  • Responsibility for the achievement of targets related to the delivery of Hatch Digital solutions and consulting services
  • Responsibility for the achievement of targets related to utilisation or bench time.

 

Minimum Experience / Education
 

The following indicates specific industry, academic and functional experience/qualifications that are critical to the successful achievement of the identified responsibilities and performance deliverables. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering or a related Engineering discipline 
  • Minimum 8 years (6 years with a Master’s Degree) of systems engineering experience, specific to or with: 
  • Metals and mining; oil and gas; power generation, transmission or distribution; ports and rail; or water treatment
  • Architecture, configuration and deployment of scalable OT solutions in layers 2 and 3 
  • Integration of PLC/DCS platforms with operations systems such as OSIsoft PI, other process historians, business intelligence solutions    etc. 
  • A demonstrated understanding of industrial systems hierarchy and the typical components thereof (ISA 95 / Purdue model) 
  • A demonstrated understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g. OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, MQTT) and their applications in IT/OT solutions, 2 years focused on the deployment, specification or application of Digital/Industry 4.0-like applications
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision 
  • Experience with commissioning and on-site solution deployment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

 

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Registration as a professional engineer
  • PMP or PRINCE2 Certified
  • 10+ years of systems engineering experience, Technical consulting experience including demonstrated client engagement skills that enabled problem synthesis and solution development through targeted interactions 
  • Experience using Microsoft Azure cloud platform, building and  consuming RESTful APIs and experience with SQL and NoSQL                                (e.g. MongoDB, ElasticSearch).     
  • Experience with systems provision in integrated control centres or remote operation centres 
  • Experience with decision support applications including optimisation,  advanced analytics or planning and scheduling systems.
