Scope of Position

Hatch develops digital and AI solutions across the Metals, Energy, and Infrastructure sectors to enable operational safety, efficiency, value chain optimization, and real-time process control and automation. Our clients are accelerating investments in advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI to unlock real-time insights, improve productivity, reduce emissions, and enhance profitability.

Hatch is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Senior Data Scientist to join our Digital team in Katowice Poland. Reporting to the Global Director of Analytics and Decision Solutions, this role will play a critical part in developing, deploying, and scaling advanced analytics and AI solutions across industrial operations and enterprise value chains.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Digital and AI Solution Development and Deployment

  • Design, develop, and validate ML/AI models for online industrial applications including predictive maintenance, process optimization, anomaly detection, forecasting, computer vision and prescriptive analytics.
  • Apply methodologies including supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and application of large language models where appropriate to solve tough industrial challenges.
  • Develop robust data pipelines and feature engineering frameworks to transform raw operational data into actionable insights.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into practical recommendations aligned with operational and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, data engineers, control specialists, and IT/OT teams to deploy machine learning models into production environments, and integrate models with enterprise and operational systems, dashboards, and decision-support tools.
  • Support end-to-end lifecycle from problem framing and data exploration through model development, validation, deployment, performance monitoring, continuous support and improvement.

Client Engagement & Value Realization

  • Partner with clients to identify high-impact analytics use cases and quantify value potential.
  • Conduct data-driven opportunity assessments and proof-of-value (PoV) studies to demonstrate measurable business impact.
  • Communicate insights and recommendations effectively to technical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
  • Support change management and adoption initiatives to ensure sustainable implementation of AI solutions.

Technology and Capability Development

  • Contribute to the growth of Hatch’s advanced analytics and AI capabilities through development of reusable frameworks, accelerators, and best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in data science, AI, and industrial analytics, bringing innovative approaches to client challenges.
  • Contribute to technical publications, white papers, conference presentations, and internal knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Experience and Skills Important for the Role

  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD preferred) in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience applying advanced analytics, machine learning and AI in mining and metals, energy, infrastructure, or asset-intensive industrial sectors. Experience in computer vision, Vision AI, and application of LLM/LVM is highly desirable.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, with experience in libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost, Scipy, seaborn, matplotlib, etc.
  • Experience deploying models into production using modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks) and MLOps practices, including model monitoring and CI/CD pipelines, is highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of statistical modeling, time-series analysis, experimental design. Expertise in mathematical optimization techniques and tools such as CPLEX, Gurobi, FICO-Xpress is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with large-scale industrial datasets, including time-series process data and sensor data.
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts, including SQL, ETL processes, APIs, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with industrial IT/OT environments and data historians (e.g., PI systems), real-time data integration, control systems, instrumentation, P&ID and cybersecurity considerations is an asset.
  • Proven ability to frame ambiguous business problems into structured analytical approaches and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Multilingual capability in English, Spanish, and/or Portuguese is an asset, particularly for collaboration across global client operations.
