Our Knowledge & Information Research Centret (KIRC) is seeking a Senior Research & Knowledge Specialist to join the team in Katowice.

 

About the Role 

 

Hatch’s Knowledge & Information Research Centre (KIRC) accelerates decision-making by delivering high-quality market/technical research, knowledge management (KM), and information governance across our global practices. We are seeking a Senior Research & Knowledge Specialist with 5+ years of experience in corporate or academic libraries to lead complex research projects, mature knowledge systems, and scale digital information services for a global engineering/consulting environment.

 

The Library.  The Knowledge & Information Research Centre (KIRC) provides access to accurate, pertinent and timely information to help Hatch employees execute client assignments and projects proficiently; and keep them aware of the cutting edges of discipline, practice, and industry knowledge, best practices and standards.

 

Library Staff.  The KIRC team is a global group of research librarians, information specialists, and knowledge management practitioners located across Hatch offices in Mississauga, Calgary, Niagara, Johannesburg, Gurugram, Bogota, and Poland. Together they deliver high-quality market and technical research, manage knowledge and information systems, oversee records and archival processes, and support thought leadership and digital literacy across the organization. The team works collaboratively across time zones, specializing in advanced secondary research, metadata and taxonomy development, content lifecycle governance, and optimization of enterprise tools such as SharePoint, Teams, and Hatch’s licensed databases. KIRC staff are known for their analytical rigor, service-oriented approach, and ability to support executives, project teams, and global business units with timely insights and reliable information management services.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Research & Insights: Deliver curated, executive-ready research (market/sector, company, policy, technical literature) using premium databases and open web, with source evaluation, synthesis, and visualization.
  • Knowledge Management: Design/enhance KM structures (taxonomies, metadata, content lifecycles), improve findability (search optimization), and enable reuse through SharePoint/Teams/Viva and related platforms.
  • Information Management: Support retention schedules, archival workflows, digitization priorities, and quality control for metadata and records.
  • Service Operations: Standardize processes and SOPs, track KPIs/SLAs, and contribute to Online Catalogue and playbooks (Gather → Think → Develop → Engage).
  • Stakeholder Enablement: Advise SMEs, BD, and leadership on information strategies; deliver training on research methods, data literacy, and effective use of enterprise tools.
  • Vendor & Content: Optimize use of licensed resources; contribute to evaluations and renewals with usage/ROI insights.
  • Collaboration: Work seamlessly across global time zones with consultants, engineers, and business leaders to meet deadlines and deliver measurable impact.

 

What You Bring

  • Minimum 5 years in a corporate or academic library/information center with hands-on research, information management, and KM responsibilities.
  • ALA-accredited MLIS (or equivalent library degree) preferred; related degrees in information science or knowledge management considered.
  • Demonstrated excellence in secondary research, synthesis, and executive-level communication (briefs, slide decks, dashboards).
  • Practical experience with SharePoint/Teams/Viva, enterprise search, taxonomies/metadata, and content lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of premium databases (e.g., Factiva, S&P, OneMine, ProQuest, AccessEngineering, Statista, ScienceDirect, LexisPlus, Wood Mackenzie, and other market/industry publishers).
  • Familiarity with records/archives workflows (e.g., offsite storage, retention, digitization).
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, prioritization, and a “service excellence” mindset in a fast-paced, global environment.

 

Nice to Have

  • Experience in engineering, mining, energy, infrastructure, or professional services.
  • Exposure to data analytics for service measurement and insight visualization.
  • Knowledge of information governance, privacy, and IP considerations in global contexts.
  • Working proficiency in a second language (English).
