Hatch is seeking results-driven architecture professional with a wide experience in assembling and leading teams to deliver high-quality transit stations and facilities, and excellent English written and verbal communication skills.  Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality, schedule and commercial objectives, as well as the ability to work independently, and to grow and manage our Transit Stations & Facilities team. 

 

Our projects involve at-grade, elevated and underground stations, maintenance facilities, intermodal transfer centers and related infrastructure such as utility buildings and traction power substations. The purpose of this full-time position is to build, lead and grow a team that positions Hatch to successfully self-perform rail and transit (Class I, Rapid Transit, Light Rail and Bus) stations and facilities design in Canada, USA, Europe, the Middle East and Australia.  This position will help grow our multi-disciplinary Transit Stations & Facilities business globally. The wider Transit team brings together all other experts in rail and bus systems, vehicles, industrial design, civil infrastructure, design-build, project implementation and a variety of other specialties to design and deliver mobility infrastructure that inspires positive change in cities and communities around the world. 

 

The Global Response Lead Transit Stations & Facilities Lead has overall responsibility and accountability for providing leadership in long-range planning, program development, problem solving, and staff development in Hatch’s recently formed Global Response Transit Stations & Facilities team. 

 

Reporting to the Global Transit Station & Facilities Business Unit Practice Lead and the Europe Transit Managing Director, the Global Response Transit Stations & Facilities Lead will be responsible for leading and growing a Global Response business which is part of over 1000+ Transit professionals across all of Hatch’s global Transit business. The Global Response Transit Stations & Facilities Lead will provide leadership in maintaining and further developing the Station & Facilities business, including responsibility for team leadership and development, technical oversight of deliverables and project financial performance.

Responsibilities: 

In this capacity the candidate will, amongst other duties:

  • Coordinate with the existing global team of rail and transit building design professionals.
  • Meet and gather feedback from Hatch’s current subject matter experts to collaboratively create a robust practice for this market.
  • Analyze Hatch’s corporate structure with an eye to creating a collaborative, cross discipline studio of design professionals specializing in rail and transit stations and facilities design.
  • Provide strategic leadership, assess the local talent, and recruit for the creation, and long-term planning for a full-service design capability for rail and transit stations and facilities for our clients.
  • Meet key performance indicators to be collaboratively determined with executive and/or global leadership.
  • Lead and manage projects as needed to bring value to the client and profit to Hatch.
  • Design and digitally develop Concept Design through Construction Documents and Specifications to current European and North American codes and standards.
  • Coordinate and interface with project team members including design managers, project managers, other designers, technical specialists, and subconsultants.
  • Actively participate in internal project team meetings to understand project requirements, schedule, deliverables, technical interface issues, etc.
  • Support the design manager and project manager with inputs to change management, decision logs and risk identification.
  • Ensure that design deliverables meet client requirements.
  • Manage risk utilizing techniques and procedures that are quantifiable, verifiable and easily explained.
  • Develop staff through mentoring and establishing career development plans.

 

 Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Design Professional, Registered Licensed Architect
  • Registered Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Understanding and experience in building a significant practice of transit stations and facilities design professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage project teams in a multi-disciplinary environment delivering positive commercial performance with demonstrable track record of successful achievement of targets.
  • Self-starter and self-motivated requiring minimal supervision
  • Confident English speaker with excellent interpersonal skills and be able to clearly communicate to all levels from clients, senior project personnel through to junior staff. Other language skills, such as French, is a plus.
  • Excellent judge and recruiter of talent
  • Provide mentorship to others.
  • Must have a solid technical and management background in transit related stations and facilities and be able to demonstrate
    • Minimum 10 years specific to transit projects
    • Must have been in senior positions such as project manager or design manager
    • Have a minimum of 20 years overall design and construction experience
    • Have excellent understanding of multi-disciplinary design documentation from disciplines     that affect the design of any transit buildings such as architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, communications, code compliance
    • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the interfaces with other disciplines such as track, systems, civil, utilities
    • Must have experience with projects through all phases of work from feasibility, concept, detailed design and construction administration
    • Preferably worked on most procurement models such as Design Build, Design Bid Build, Progressive Design Build, Design Build Operate Maintain, etc
    • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite, BIM is an asset.
    • Commitment to achieving design, architectural, and engineering excellence.
    • A desire to continue professional development through learning new standards, skills and software.

 

Applicants should have the ability to travel internationally if required.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
