Hatch is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer in Los Angeles, CA, to support the expanding USA Infrastructure business unit. The role involves various technical leadership responsibilities related to the structural engineering of transportation bridges and structures.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with project teams to complete diverse projects and tasks as the Lead Structural Engineer. This role entails performing and/or verifying structural analyses and developing or checking design calculations using AASHTO and other design codes for a range of bridges and structural systems in linear transportation projects. Moreover, the candidate should possess a solid understanding of bridge load rating practices, as well as bridge field inspection and reporting practices in asset maintenance.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and assist in the creation of bridge design deliverables, including concept reports, design calculations, construction plans, specifications, estimates, and schedules.
  • Oversee technical tasks and, when necessary, spearhead projects to ensure timely, budget-conscious delivery of high-quality outputs that meet or surpass industry standards.
  • Utilize MicroStation or AutoCAD to develop structural details and construction plans.
  • Analyze and determine suitable design solutions for transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and foundations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and contractual compliance of engineering calculations, drawings, estimates, specifications, and construction schedule deliverables.
  • Provide leadership in bridge design and mentorship to junior and mid-career engineers. Oversee and conduct condition inspections and reports for in-service bridges.
  • Handle the development and verification of load rating calculations and reports.
  • Engage in client and project development teams.
  • Coordinate with relevant agencies for regulatory approvals related to bridge engineering.
  • Support pursuit managers and project managers in creating proposal documents.
  • Communicate with clients to accurately convey their needs to the project team.
  • Establish the benchmark for quality within the Bridges team.

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering is required, along with over 15 years of bridge engineering experience.
  • A Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
  • The candidate should have proven experience in a consulting engineering firm, specializing in the planning, preliminary and detailed design of new bridges, as well as the rehabilitation of existing bridges. This includes proficiency with steel and concrete structures, bridge assessment, load evaluation, and culvert sizing.
  • The role involves working with both government and private sector clients, including detailed design for contractor clients.
  • Proficiency in current bridge and structural design software applications such as CSi Bridge/SAP 2000, RetainPro, LEAP, PGSuper/PGSplice, LPile/Group, AutoCAD, and MicroStation is required.
  • The candidate must also be proficient in Microsoft Office applications like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, along with other general calculation software applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of AASHTO LRFD bridge design standards and familiarity with codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, and OSHA are essential. 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Registered Structural Engineer (SE)
  • Professional Engineer registration across multiple states.

 

This position reports to the Regional Manager

Salary: $125,000 - 185,000
