Port Planner/Engineer

 

Hatch is currently seeking a Port Planner/Engineer, to join its growing Ports & Terminals team in Los Angeles.  It is expected that the candidate will provide professional planning and engineering services to effectively support, manage, and coordinate the preparation of long-range port master plans and terminal expansion/optimization plans.

As a successful candidate, you will:

 

  • Applying engineering principles to provide efficient, effective, economical, and timely technical solutions, primarily to port planning problems across multivariable and multidiscipline project environments;
  • Collecting, reviewing, and analyzing a variety of engineering data to meet engineering objectives;
  • Preparing reports, presentations, grant and planning documents, proposals, and work estimates.
  • Track and follow markets and opportunities in the region and sector.
  • Provide input to proposal preparation.
  • Be aware of industry technical requirements, trends, and opportunities.
  • Connect and provide visibility with industry businesses and technical leaders.
  • Participate in professional excellence groups.

 

What you bring to the role:

 

  • University degree in civil, marine, or mechanical engineering (ABET accredited). Degree in transportation planning considered.
  • California Professional Engineer license encouraged.
  • 3-6 years of planning and design experience with heavy industrial terminals, ports, maritime, material-handling areas, or related projects.
  • Experience in executing planning and layout assignments, terminal capacity assessments, debottlenecking, and optimization studies as well as familiarity with business improvement and optimization engagements.
  • Familiarity with the maritime industry, common cargoes (e.g., containers, Ro/Ro, bulk, breakbulk, and project cargo), and a variety of marine facilities (e.g., container terminals, cruise terminals, bulk material handling facilities, offshore wind support facilities, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with the US freight transportation and logistics networks.
  • An entrepreneurial “can do” attitude with an ability to work toward solutions despite real world constraints of limited time and information.
  • Fluency with the Microsoft Office Suite, with a focus on Excel and PowerPoint, with basic ArcGIS familiarity.
