The Hatch Environmental Services Group (ESG) undertakes studies and delivers environmental services in the areas of ESIAs, permitting, Environmental Site Assessment, community engagement, sustainability/corporate social responsibility, climate change and related project delivery services. Our wealth of engineering, environmental, EPCM project delivery and procurement experience and our global footprint is highly differentiated in the growing environmental services market.

Currently our Australian team is looking to grow, and we are currently seeking an Intermediate/Senior Environmental Specialist to work with our Infrastructure team based in Melbourne.

The successful candidate will be working with senior leaders in our ESG and infrastructure group to build client relationships and help to execute projects. The role involves business development as well as working directly with engineers on projects for clients and developing deliverables based on project scopes. Whilst we are seeking more of a  generalist environmental role, there will be a large focus on infrastructure and transport projects. You may also be required to coordinate subcontractors who are completing specialized studies depending on the project. 

We are looking for someone who is technically competent whilst also bringing with them solid leadership and people management skills.  


The successful candidate will be based in Melbourne and will work with the Brisbane Environmental team and perform the following tasks/duties:


  • Work with senior leaders within our infrastructure team to help grow the revenue and profit of our existing environmental consulting practice in supporting infrastructure and transport project delivery.
  • Project Management and coordination and completion of key environmental deliverables.
  • Providing advice and direction to the Infrastructure team in relation to meeting environmental and sustainability project requirements. 
  • Work collaboratively with an integrated, multidisciplinary teams, liaising and supporting global peers.
  • Comprehensive industry knowledge and the ability to prepare and present complex planning and management reports and submissions to Council, the development industry and the community.
  • Helping to grow the team, mentoring younger staff, with a vision of leading the Melbourne based ESG team.


Qualifications and qualities we are ideally seeking:


  • Bachelor’s/University degree in science, environmental science, environmental management, or a related discipline. 
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in working on environmental assessment projects and related studies, sustainable development activities on major infrastructure or transport projects.
  • Knowledge of the Transport and Infrastructure style of project award and execution including the award of major government infrastructure award systems. 
  • Well-versed in understanding of ESIA, ISCA, permitting, approvals and regulatory requirements within Australia. 
  • Effective and open communication and presentation style and the ability to plan and deliver high quality reports
  • Ability to take initiative, and work independently where required 
  • Effective, open communication and presentation style with the ability to plan and deliver best in class, high quality deliverables.
