Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch, is currently seeking a Track Principal Engineer to join the Infrastructure group in Melbourne or Sydney.


The successful candidate will have solid experience in the transport infrastructure sector with a strong technical background. You will be required to provide management skills to expand the infrastructure team’s capability and support the ongoing activities of a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy. You will be provided with an opportunity to motivate and mentor team members and secure key roles on a variety of different projects for well-known, reputable Clients.

As the successful candidate you will be:


  • Carrying out and supervising rail engineering design for large transport infrastructure projects
  • Preparing, reviewing and checking engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports
  • Reviewing and checking engineering drawings
  • Providing input to engineering, operating and cost estimates
  • Leading in and contributing to design reviews
  • Leading design teams from feasibility studies to procurement through to detailed design
  • Doing Client/Stakeholder management
  • Managing commercial aspects of projects
  • Assisting on bidding and tenders
  • Mentoring junior staff. 
  • A champion of inclusion and diversity

You bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated rail engineering design for transport infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge and experience using industry related Australian Standards, local Queensland Rail standards and other rail authority standards.
  • Practical knowledge and experience using civil design software i.e. 12d and / or Bentley Railtrack.
  • A degree in civil engineering from a recognised tertiary institution would be looked upon favorably
  • Safety awareness and good attitude toward safety
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
