The Advanced Process Control (APC) practice objective is to solve business and production problems by using a suite of tools and systems, such as machine learning, event recognition, neural networks and AI. Our APC practice is part of the Controls, Automation & Electrical (CA&E) discipline, and provides services ranging from Opportunities Studies, to advanced controls design, regulatory controls, and developing, deploying and assisting our clients in operating automation advanced process control systems

The Advanced Process Controls (APC) Specialist will be responsible for the technical input for various projects, business development activities and mentorship, and will be exposed to all components of the practice.   The candidate is expected to travel 35-40% of the time on short trips between various client locations and/or offices, working across a spectrum of different industries.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to clients and projects teams on advanced process control design.
  • Participate in the development of proposals and estimates for advanced process control optimizations projects
  • Provide design input to various projects for advanced process control techniques and implementation
  • Client engagement and business development
  • Lead Opportunities Studies, and scoping studies
  • Develop and implement optimization strategies for existing operations.   Optimization implementation can include loop tuning, performance monitoring and advanced regulatory control.
  • Train resources, internally and client teams

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • B. Sc. or B. Eng. Degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Minimum ten years’ experience in deploying advance process control techniques
  • A high degree of understanding of the interdisciplinary dependencies related to APC design.
  • Able to communicate and visualize complex problems in a simple way
  • Experience in process control optimization, audits, loop tuning and performance monitoring in various industries.
  • Experience in implementing energy and reagent usage reduction strategies
  • Experience in tuning software (Expertune, , Rockwell tuner, etc.)
  • Experience in Plant Control and Performance monitoring systems (Plantriage, CPM, Connoisseur, Pavillion, PlantESP, Schneider APC, etc.)
  • Experience in DCS and PLC software (Emerson Delta V, ABB 800XA, Rockwell Contrologix, Siemens S7, etc.)
  • Experience in commissioning and start-up
  • Good safety awareness and track record
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills

 

Preferred

  • Demonstrated managerial experience and good understanding of business processes
