Title: Climate Change Engineering Student
 

Position Summary:

Hatch’s Climate Change Business Practice is seeking a Climate Change Engineering Student with interest in climate change, decarbonization and climate technologies. Reporting to one of the Leads of our Climate Change Business Practice, you will support projects locally and globally based out of our Mississauga Head Office location. The Climate Change Engineering Student will be part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering engineered solutions to combat climate change including process electrification, green hydrogen, carbon capture, carbon dioxide removal including direct air capture, biomass, biochar and biofuels.  The role will require an understanding of carbon and energy usage in complex industrial processes to develop decarbonization solutions across various process and energy systems, unit operations, and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support in executing climate change and decarbonization-related engagements, including compiling greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, performing mass and energy balances, and preparing process flow diagrams.  
  • Assist in data analysis, process modeling and simulations
  • Assist in the preparation of technical calculations, design documents, technical reports, specifications, and datasheets.
  • Working with project teams to provide input to techno-economic analyses.

 

Education and Experience: 

Interest/experience in topics such as:

  • Decarbonization of complex industrial processes
  • Climate technologies including process electrification, green hydrogen, carbon capture, carbon dioxide removal including direct air capture, biomass, biochar and biofuels.
  • Data analysis, process modelling, and data visualization
  • Completed the 2nd year and preferably 3rd year of a four-year degree program (B.Eng/B.A.Sc.) in chemical or mechanical engineering
  • Academic or work experience with climate change, sustainability, decarbonization,  climate technologies and low carbon processes is an asset

Competencies (knowledge, skills, attributes):

  • Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects
