Hatch’s Environment, People, and Place (EP&P) team provides its clients a variety of services in the environmental, community & indigenous engagement, geospatial information & digital terrain modelling, and urban design & placemaking. Developing team members often contribute to multiple practices of delivery across the EP&P team, and as such we are seeking interns who are passionate about multiple services offerings.

Hatch is seeking a highly motivated Environment, People, and Place Intern with interests in environmental and social impact assessments, urban planning and design, and community and indigenous engagement for a 4-month internship. Reporting to the Regional Director, EP&P, and receiving guidance and direction from project managers you will be supporting, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other planners, designers, engineers, architects, and economists across our global offices, while working from one of our Mississauga, Vancouver, or Niagara Falls locations.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to projects at different phases, from ideation and scope development through to delivery and completion;
- Applying and developing knowledge in various EP&P areas, including environmental field surveys, federal and provincial impact assessments, engagement and community collaboration, ecosystem protection, placemaking and urban design;
- Preparing technical documents and reports, including writing, mapping, and visualizations;
- Performing and circulating news scans to keep yourself and the team up-to-date on relevant events;
- Presenting your work to relevant team members and clients; and
- Assisting leadership, managers, and colleagues as needed, etc.
Your educational and experiential qualifications should include:
- Enrollment in Environmental Engineering, Biology or other programs such as Civil Engineering, Geography, or a relevant program from an accredited university;
- Strong academic standing;
- Interest in a career in the environmental, sustainability, engagement, or urban design sectors;
- Extracurriculars and knowledge or experience in a consultancy environment undertaking related projects will be considered an asset.
Competencies you should possess to be successful in this role include:
- Ability to think critically and creatively to create solutions for our clients’ toughest challenges;
- Quick learning and interest to take on new challenges;
- Collaboration and being a team player with excellent interpersonal skills;
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to accuracy and detail;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong mathematical and data analysis skills (including using Excel); and
- Performing geospatial analyses using GIS software will be considered an asset.
