Title: Environment and Sustainability Group Co-op - Mississauga 

Position Summary:   

Hatch is seeking an Environment and Sustainability Co-op Student for an 8 month position starting in January 2023. Reporting to the Environment & Sustainability Regional Director, you will support offices globally working from our Mississauga Head office.

Responsibilities:  

As a co-op student, your duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Execution of field visits to support field investigations; 

  • Collection and analysis of environmental records and data; 

  • Preparation of technical environmental studies related to soil, water, air, noise, or the natural environment; 

  • Compilation of regulatory permit applications including environmental compliance approvals, tree permits, water taking and discharge permits, etc. 

  • Supporting the preparation of proposals for various technical studies; and, 

  • Liaising with various Environmental & Sustainability Leads to support ongoing mining, infrastructure and energy projects, where required. 

   

Education and Experience: 

  • Senior student in one of the following programs: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, science or related field, preferably with environmental, biology, physical geography or earth science specialization.  

  • Good practical and theoretical knowledge of groundwater and soil contamination, air quality, noise and vibration, hydrology, erosion and sediment control, and the regulations governing these topics in Ontario. Knowledge of energy, mining and/or infrastructure projects.  

  • Experience in data collection, conducting environmental sampling and field investigations.  

  • Experience in data analysis and technical reporting.  

  • Experience and comfort working in outdoor settings and remote environments.  

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and construction practices.  

  • Experience using AERMOD, AutoCAD, ArcMap Geographic Information System (GIS) software and other environmental modelling software as needed. 

  • Resourceful with good problem-solving abilities.  

  • Adept at using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).  

  • Valid Class G driver’s license (considered an asset)
