Hatch is seeking a Fluvial Geomorphologist to join it’s Environmental Services Group. This role will be involved on various projects involving fluvial geomorphic  throughout Ontario and to a lesser extent Canada, primarily within the infrastructure, mining and energy sectors.

Responsibilities

Our ideal candidate will perform  and train junior staff in geomorphic field assessments, data processing and interpretation, technical report writing and assist Hatch’s engineering and environmental teams in channel / water crossing designs and  agency permitting. Other duties  will likely include:

  • Determination of design discharge;
  • Assessment of role of sediment transport;
  • Development of meander geometry/hydraulic geometry relations;
  • Based on flows and gradients, develop channel configuration for design sites
  • Develop understanding of boundary conditions (substrates/banks), groundwater contribution, and vegetative control approaches.
  • Assisting Aquatic Biologist in Aquatic Habitat Assessment and Impact Analysis in relation to substrate changes as a result of flow manipulations.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Environmental Science/Engineering
  • Masters degree in Geomorphology preferred
  • Minimum 8 years experience in geomorphology design and oversite
  • Minimum 5 years experience in one of Hatch’s core industries – mining, energy or infrastructure
  • Expert working knowledge of MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience with modeling and analysis software including HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-RAS, SWAT, FLO-2D, and ArcGIS is a plus
  • Certified  Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control  as an asset
