Hatch is looking for a Global Mobility Immigration Specialist to join our office in Mississauga. Working as part of the Global Mobility team, the Global Mobility Immigration Specialist will offer an advanced experience in Canadian and US immigration and provide highly specialized advice for the Canadian and US region. The Global Mobility Immigration Specialist is a stakeholder in the wider HR and Mobility team to ensure compliance and consistency across continents and to contribute to the development of the Mobility practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with outside legal counsel in securing appropriate work permits and authorizations for foreign national worker population
- Provide subject matter expertise on USMCA/CUSMA (and other) work permit matters including Canadian and US Intracompany transfers, and have a basic understanding of Canadian LMIAs
- Coordinate the collection of necessary information and documentation for USMCA/CUSMA work permits
- Ensure immigration records are maintained and in full compliance with appropriate legislative frameworks
- Monitor immigration applications to ensure compliance with immigration laws
- Develop and suggest immigration policy framework for Hatch
- Provide strategic direction and guidance to the Hatch Global Mobility team
- Review and recommend immigration processes, as necessary, to ensure efficiency and optimal employee experience
- Serve as a resource for education and training for hiring managers, HR colleagues, and Staffing/Recruiting on appropriate USMCA work permit classifications and onboarding timelines.
- Keep abreast of Immigration law updates
- Coordinate and liaise between HR, foreign national employees, outside counsel, and managers
- Sign and review paperwork as prepared by various parties.
- Ensure appropriate records, files and databases for the region are maintained
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5-7 years of previous US and Canadian immigration experience in industry or in a corporate immigration firm
- Proven ability to apply attention to detail, research, and gain knowledge quickly
- Business administration degree or law clerk diploma is an asset
- Qualifications as a lawyer or paralegal who is a member in good standing of a Canadian law society, or a Quebec notary, or an Immigration consultant who is a member in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) is an asset
- Demonstrated understanding of the nature and life cycle of the project environment
- Strong client focus with demonstrated confidentiality and client service
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work and exercise initiative to ensure an efficient and quality level of service
- Flexible and change ready with the ability to work in a busy and dynamic team environment
- Ability to resolve issues and use negotiation skills to influence decisions
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Excellent team player with a demonstrated ability to put team goals ahead of individual goals
- Ability to proactively resolve issues and improve processes
- Ability to travel as required
- Valid driver’s license is required
