This is a senior Technical Leadership position within the within the eGRID unit of the Power division of Hatch. The position consisting in the coordination/development of the Power Transmission and Integration team, business development/client account management, and leading and/or performing planning/feasibility studies, interconnection studies and systems analysis investigations for clients in North America primarily, but also globally. The incumbent will take an active leadership role in the PT&I offerings such as HVDC/FACTs, transmission, substations, energy storage and work closely with the other groups within the Power BU, as well as with other Hatch divisions (e.g. Port, Rail, infrastructure, etc.), on related power system studies and power sector master plans.
The incumbent shall be familiar and experienced with key North America Power sector and assist in developing key client relationships and delivering projects. PT&I have differentiated itself from other firms through its HVDC and power system group, and this will be a continued area of focus, both in North America and Globally. Of additional benefit will be experience with North American market operators (i.e. MISO, PJM, NE-ISO, NY-ISO, ERCOT, SSP, AESO, IESO) policies, guidelines, regulations, rules, requirements and criteria as applicable to grid interconnection, performance and planning, especially to bulk power systems.
Role and responsibilities for this position include:
· Manage and grow a team of engineers of various experience level and see to their continuous technical development.
· Lead/oversee the continuous development of the PT&I group and develop processes, methodologies and tools for quality and efficiencies, and for ensuring being at the forefront of technical expertise and innovation in the industry.
· Business development to generate leads, secure MSA, prepare proposals, win work.
· Support our existing clients globally.
· Perform or coordinate or review of planning/system performance studies for compliance with prevailing standards and criteria and good engineering practice.
· Support the Business Unit in business development including fostering relationships with existing clients, preparing proposals for new work, identifying market areas and pitching clients.
· Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment
· Undertake thought leadership activities (e.g. speaker at conference, panelist, technical article, whitepaper, etc.) and promote Hatch’s know-how in the Power and T&D sector in the region and participate in international working groups such as IEEE and CIGRE
· Maintaining close coordination with other relevant Hatch Business Units and Practices for cross selling and cross staffing opportunities.
Qualifications for the positions include:
· A degree in Electrical Engineering
· Minimum of 15 years of experience in the power industry, with a focus on HVDC and HVAC
· experience in the areas of HVDC & FACTS C&P, AC C&P, specification development, tender evaluation, design review, power system C&P coordination studies, IEC 61850, SCADA integration and cyber security
· Understanding of HVAC/HVDC transmission projects
· Good knowledge of the various USA utilities, ISOs, and RTOs.
· Knowledge of applicable industry standards including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE.
· Proven track record in securing work and customer accounts
· Excellent communication skills, oral and written
· Known for being a teamwork player
· Registration with relevant applicable engineering associations
Occasional travel to site locations or for customer meeting in North America as well as international is required.
